Moodbidri, Sep 4: Arbikatte falls provides a breathtaking view because of the bounteous nature around it, and water that flows in the falls all through the year. The falls located at Kanchibail provides ample opportunities for development as a nice tourist spot but as it has not been undergoing planned development and not maintained properly, it has become an unsafe destination.
Arbikatte falls is located at Kanchibail within Puthige grama panchayat limits. Even though the area has abundant greenery, the presence of dangerous boulders poses danger. A little carelessness here can give rise to catastrophes. People come here for picnics and to have fun, having been enamored by the photos shared by visitors on social media sites. There have been incidents in which the youngsters casually behave and slip down the slippery boulders. People stand on boulders next to the area where water flows, and put their lives into danger, even though some luckily escape. During the last five years, four people have lost their lives here.
Normally families come here during the weekends for fun whereas college students flock to this spot on holidays. There has also been a section of people who come here to consume liquor. Empty liquor bottles, cigarette butts etc have played havoc with cleanliness here. Bottles have been tossed into the crevices of boulders.
MLA Umanath Kotian, said that he will get information about the safety and other arrangements at the falls from the local administration.
