Bengaluru, Sep 5: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that physical classes will start for students of sixth, seventh and eighth grades in all the districts of the state from Monday September 6.
If the cases of Covid infections are low on Saturday and Sunday and positivity rate goes down below 2% in Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts, schools will start in these districts also.
CM Bommai spoke after having video conference with DCs of five border districts on Saturday about the Covid situation.
"Classes for students of ninth, 10th and PU are going on without any issues. Covid infections are less at present. From September 6, classes for sixth, seventh and eighth grades will also begin. Later, after assessing the situation, classes will begin for first to fifth grades," he said.
Last month, the government had given permission start physical classes for students only in districts where the positivity rate was less than 2%. As the positivity rate was more classes did not begin in the districts of Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu. Now the positivity rate is same in these districts. If the infections reduce on Saturday and Sunday, there is a possibility that permission will be granted to open schools in DK and Kodagu also.
DCs of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu, Chamarajnagar and Hassan took part in the video conference. CM directed the DCs to increase testing and strictly monitor the situation in their respective districts. He also specially instructed DC of Dakshina Kannada to increase the number of tests and also vaccination of public.
