Kundapur, Sep 5: Two traditional boats capsized in the sea in separate incidents on Sunday September 5 following heavy rain and wind. The incidents were reported at Kanchugodu and Trasi, Hosapete. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
A total of six fishermen were rescued in the two incidents.
Three fishermen were returning from fishing on 'Omkara Prasanna' boat belonging to Rama Kharvi. Due to heavy rain and wind, the boat capsized near Kanchugodu shore.
Fishermen who were nearby rushed to help them and managed to rescue all the three fishermen. The rescued fishermen have been identified as Rama Kharvi (65), Nagaraj Kharvi (38) and Vinay Kharvi (30).
The loss incurred due to the incident has been estimated at Rs 5 lac, as the boat engine, fishing net and other materials in the boat sank, informed Vinay Kharvi to the coastal security police.
In another incident, a boat capsized off Trasi, Hosapete. And three fishermen were rescued.
The rescued fishermen were Naga Kharvi(54) of Hosapete.
Nithyananda Kharvi (47) of Bhagath Nagar in Hosanadu, Roshan (37) of Gujjadi, and Naga Kharvi ventured into the sea for fishing on 'Yaksheshwari Anugraha' boat. At around 7.30 pm the boat capsized due to heavy rain and rough waves. They were rescued by fishermen who were in another boat.
The incident resulted in an estimated loss of Rs 3 lac.
