Mangaluru, Sep 7: Police sub-inspector Poovappa likes to share whatever he has with the others. He lives in the police quarters here. The couple loves animals very much. Poovappa and his wife are dejected at the fact that they have not been blessed with children. To drive away this shortcoming, they feed the street dogs every day.
Poovappa is a reserve police sub-inspector here. He has completed 32 years of service. His wife Ragini, is a housewife. They provide sumptuous non-vegetarian food to a number of street dogs on a daily basis.
The couple has been living in the police quarters here for the last 15 years. Since then, they have been satiating the hunger of about 27 street dogs living in the area. Twice every day they provide non-vegetarian food to the dogs. The couple spends about Rs 15,000 every month just for feeding these dogs.
It is learnt that the couple provides only chicken, leg pieces and other good quality food to the dogs. Ragini prepares tasty non-vegetarian food for the dogs and takes care never to feed leftovers or stale food to the canines. If any dog is found to be sick, she provides milk and biscuits apart from treating the animal.
When Poovappa and his wife have to be away in case of emergencies, they ask the colleagues to provide food to the dogs in their absence. The couple, who are forgetting the pain of not having children by feeding the dogs, are doing praiseworthy work by providing food to the street dogs.
