Sullia, Sep 8: Relating to assaulting former zilla panchayat member, Saraswati Kamath, the court here sentenced Sullia Mandal BJP president, Harish Kanjipili and 14 others.
The incident had happened during the zilla panchayat election held in 2013. Saraswati Kamath had filed a complaint alleging that she was going to a marriage function in her vehicle when Harish Kanjipili and 14 of his supporters had waylaid her vehicle, She was abused with filthy words, posed with life threat, and was kicked in the abdomen, she said. The then Sullia police sub-inspector, Ravi B S, had filed charge sheets in the court against the accused.
Judge of the senior court here, Somashekhar, who heard the case, concluded that the accused as guilty. All the 15 have been awarded with imprisonment and fine. The accused who will face different terms of sentences between one and two years, have to collectively pay compensation of Rs 50,000 to the aggrieved lady, the judge said.
The accused who have been found guilty and punished are Harish Kanjipili, Harish Kayipalla, Ishwarappa Gowda Harladka, Raivchandra Kodapala, Savin K B, Diwakar Nayak Ermetti, Dinesh Chemnur, Ramachandra Haldadka, Shanmukha Sootigadde, Dhananjaya Balyadi, Balakrishna Kanjipili, Manu alias Manohar Pura Deepak Elimale, Manoj Gattigar, and Vikas alias Vishwanath.
