Congratulations to Trichy K R Kumar. Until yesterday ‘Ghatam Kumar’ was the only ‘A’ grade Ghatam artiste in coastal district and now is the second "TOP" ranking music artiste next only to the Saxophone great Padmashree Kadri Gopalanath. Apart from being a versatile performer, SriK R Kumar is a friendly person, very co-operative colleague, who holds deep knowledge in Carnatic classical music. Many performers of Hindustani Classical music also receive guidance from him for nuances and have performed fusion 'jugalbandhi' with him. He is known to be the only authority in 'Laya'(rhythm) in coastal districts. I have the privilege and pleasure of working with him in the Music Section of All India Radio, Mangalore and watching him perform very closely. We have received feedback that in the Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan Concert in Calicut on 25th Sept. 2010, Kumar & his Ghatam stole the limelight. Looks like this festive season is very auspicious to Kumar. Congratulations once again.

Could anybody shed more lights on the artists ?
    Whose desciple is he ?

since it is mentioned that he is the second one from Mangalore to get the AIR A grade, wanted to know if has any root to Mangalore or he is a local resident through profession ? Name suggests his ancestry to Trichy.

Wishes and congratulations to the Ghatam artist.
