Udupi: Wife Alleges Illegal Confinement of Husband in Nigeria

Udupi, Oct 9: Vincent Rock D’Souza (35), a native of Miyar in Karkala taluk in the district, is reportedly in illegal confinement in Nigeria. This was stated by Helan D’Souza, wife of Vincent, who lives in Belman.

Vincent, who was married five years ago, was earlier employed in Dubai. After Carbon Power Ltd based in Dubai opened its branch in Nigeria in March this year, he went there to work on a six-month visa. Helen said that Vincent was arrested on September 27, when he was about to return to India, as his visa was set to expire the next day. Reportedly, he was arrested by the Nigerian police who came to his room, on the basis of a complaint lodged by Vincent’s employers.

Helen says she had contacted Ali Khan, head of Nigeria branch of the concern for which her husband worked. “Khan told me that a fraud had been committed in the company, and that Vicent is aware of it. He also claimed that if Vicent discloses the details, he would be released,” Helen said. She added that the official refused to divulge any details about the fraud including the extent of the fraud and who had committed it.

Helen, who insists that her husband is innocent, has appealed to the Indian embassy in Nigeria to help her husband to get released soon from imprisonment. She said she has already contacted the office of Oscar Fernandes and Capt Ganesh Karnik, deputy chairman of NRI Forum, Karnataka, in this context.

Helen, who lives with her three-year-old daughter and aged parents of Vincent, says she has been unable to contact her husband, as the policemen have cut off his mobile connection. She hopes that the ordeal of her husband will end at the earliest, and his family would be able to get reunited with Vincent soon.
