Bangalore: Yet Another Brazen Act: Yeddy Bans Media Coverage

Bangalore, Oct 11: Continuing its brazen acts starting with the disqualification of 16 MLAs including 5 independents in its desperate moves to win the crucial floor test in the Karnataka legislative assembly on October 11, Monday, the B S Yeddyurappa regime has issued orders to prevent entry of media for covering the proceedings in the Assembly.
The ban orders against the media are mostly against live coverage by the television channels. However, it is not clear whether print media will also be banned along with the visual media.
The Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister S Suresh Kumar as well as the Chief Minister’s Media Adviser R P Jagadish have promised to ensure that the print media representatives will be allowed to cover the proceedings.
The Congress opposition leader Siddaramaiah has condemned the BJP government for its brazen acts and termed it as worst authoritarian step.
Meanwhile, the 16 disqualfied MLAs were reportedly prevented from visiting the residence of the High Court Chief Justice Kehar Singh.
The disgruntled MLAs have promised to resist the ``illegal” orders for their ``disqualification” by the Speaker K G Bopaiah and have threatened to enter the Assembly despite the orders by the Assembly Secretary S B Patil prohibiting their entry into Vidhana Soudha.
The Yeddyurappa regime has declared a holiday for the entire secretariat staff, barring the staff of the state legislature, in Vidhana Soudha and the adjacent Vikasa Soudha. The neighouring government offices in the Multi-storeyed buildings near Nrupathunga Road have also been given half a day’s holiday.
