Mangaluru, Sep 17: From Friday September 17, physical classes for standards 8, 9 and 10 began in Dakshina Kannada (DK) district. The students were upbeat and about 60 percent attended the classes. Sixth and seventh standard physical classes will commence on September 20.
All the 170 government high schools, 114 aided high schools and 251 unaided high schools opened their doors on Friday after a long time. Classes for standards 9 and 10 were held between 9 am and 1.30 pm while for the eighth standard, physical classes were held between 2 and 4.30 pm.
In most of the schools, the teachers extended a warm welcome to students by handing over flowers. The health of the students was checked and the teachers educated them about the need to use masks and sanitisers, as well as maintaining social distance.
Out of 18,533 students who have registered themselves for the first PU this year, 11,218 attended the colleges. The attendance in second PU classes was 16,834.
Second, fourth and sixth semesters of the graduate courses and second, fourth and sixth (MCV) semesters of the postgraduate course of Mangalore University also opened for the students on Friday and the attendance was over 75 percent.
