Mangaluru, Sep 20: Regarding the attack at Karangalpady where a man barged into District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) center, police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said that the accused Naveen was mentally ill.
Speaking to media, he said, “The accused Naveen has paranoid schizophrenia, a chronic mental illness.
“Naveen is a 31-year-old from Kundapur 31. He was working at Kundapur court as a peon in 2018. In 2012-13 he joined the training center for DeD. It came to light that he was mentally not stable. He used to behave violently. He has been earlier treated at a hospital in Udupi.

“Doctors clearly said that Naveen was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia, a chronic mental illness.
“During our probe, the accused claimed that one of his teachers did not show him respect as he expected. He also said that the teacher along with a student performed black magic on him and made him suffer. When he tried to meet the teacher to request her to rescue him from the black magic, he could not meet her. Hence, he attacked others in anger.
“We will collect the medical evidences and take information from the doctor by whom he was treated. Naveen will be charged under Section 307,” he said.
The police commissioner also informed that the accused has purchased a sharp weapon from a shop in Kundapur for the crime.
