Brahmavar: Possessing unlicensed firearm - Complaint filed

Daijiworld Media Network - Brahmavar (SP)

Brahmavar, Sep 22: Based on reliable information that Jaya Naik (46), resident of Cherkady within Brahmavar police station limits, was in possession of an unlicensed gun, Brahmavar police sub-inspector Gurunath B Hadimani, visited the house of Jaya Naik and undertook search. The search party found two guns concealed by the side of an almirah in one of the rooms of the house. Both the guns appeared to be of the same make and looked identical.

The accused informed that one of the guns was issued a license by the deputy commissioner and its license number was UD/273/3. When he was questioned about the other gun, he confessed that it was unauthorised, and that he had mentioned the same licence number, on that gun too in order to ensure that no one suspected that he had an unlicensed firearm.

In a complaint filed in Brahmavar police station, the sub-inspector said that it is clear that the accused had acquired a similar gun that resembled the previous licensed one, with the specific objective of cheating the inspection officials. A case under section 420 of Indian Penal Code and different sections of the Arms Act was registered in Brahmavar police station.

Readers, unlicensed weapons are banned, a serious crime across India.. These single barrel guns should be considered as antiques, fit to be kept in museums... What we should be more worried about are the undisclosed modern weapons, stored by criminals/ antinationals elements....

He has a licence for one similar to the other which he does not. I feel it's not such a big issue to high light. Instead there are larger issues that should be taken seriously.
