Chikmagalur, Oct 16: The state government’s efforts to bring the naxals into the mainstream have been bearing some fruits of late. On Friday October 15, three women naxals surrendered to the district administration here.

These three women had at first, been actively involved with pro-people movements like Anti Kudremukh National Park movement, Women Awareness Forums, Karnataka Vimochana Ranga etc., and then got attracted towards naxalism.

Mallika, Jaya and Komala, who had been given training in naxal philosophy, using of guns and guerrilla warfare, surrendered before the district administration, and as a result, became eligible for benefits under the recently-announced naxal package.

Mallika (26), a resident of Elemadalu, Jayapur in Koppa taluk, had taken part in naxal activities in 2002, and faces six cases. The policemen had arrested her when she was going from Sringeri to Kigga in the year 2005. The court had released her a few months back, as the prosecution failed to back its case with reliable witnesses and evidences.

Jaya (25) from Megur in Koppa taluk had got involved with naxal activities since 2003 and had gone underground. She was arrested by the Balehonnur police, but secured released through the court for want of evidence to prove her guilt.

Komala (21) of Megur had got involved with naxalism since 2002, and a case had been registered against her. She was arrested by the Balehonnur police and was released on bail. As she did not want to continue with naxal activities, she returned to her village and used to live there since some time.

With this, the government’s initiatives to bring those who are involved directly or indirectly with naxalism into mainstream, have received a boost, said Dr Chennappa Gowda, deputy commissioner of the district, and superintendent of police, Vikaskumar Vikas. They said that the three women on their own, had volunteered to join the mainstream.

Reportedly, another naxal, Hagalaganji Venkatesh, who recently surrendered, had worked to convince the three women to follow suit.

Just coz these people look innocent we will not punish them. Every thief / Goonda /Prostitue is bound with circustances / situations which compell them to be the black spots in the society. Now the law should transform them into mankind / bring human values in them / make them realise their mistakes.

If 3 brothers were found in their palces are we ready to judge thier faces and decide that they are innocent.

"Dista tasa nasta". Jo dikh ta hai vaisa nahi hai.

    May God Bless All
