Kaup, Sep 25: Congress workers and leaders under the leadership of former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake and former Belapu gram panchayat president Dr Deviprasad Shetty on Saturday September 25 staged a protest in front of the newly constructed Kaup government polytechnic college, expressing their anger over the fact that the organizers did not officially invite Vinay Kumar Sorake for its inauguration, and inaugurating the college without providing basic amenities.
Minister of higher education Dr Ashwath Narayan, union minister of state for agriculture Shobha Karandlaje, state minister of social welfare Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLA Lalaji R Mendon and other guests had arrived for the inauguration of Kaup government polytechnic college. Congress activists greeted them with protests and gheraoed Ashwath Narayan's vehicle.
Addressing the protest, Sorake said that the polytechnic college was sanctioned when Congress leader Siddaramaiah was the chief minister. "Forgetting us when the construction is completed has pained us," he said.
Belapu gram panchayat former president Deviprasad Shetty said that the road to Kaup government polytechnic is is still in a state of disrepair. "The administration has failed to solve drinking water woes in this vicinity. Basic necessities are not made available in the college. Therefore, we boycott the programme," he said.
Kaup block Congress president Navin Chandra Suvarna, Congress’s Shivaji Suvarna Y, Sukumar, Prashanth Jathanna, Navin N Shetty, Rameez Padubidri and others were present.
