Bengaluru, Sep 26: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Party has extended its support to the peaceful Bharat Bandh on Monday by the farmers seeking immediate redressal of their just demands.
The entire farming community is suffering due to the anti-farmer policies of the BJP governments at the Centre and in the State, State Congress President D K Shivakumar said and accused the Narendra Modi-led Union government as well as the BJP governments in the States of adopting anti-farmer policies while lending support to only a few crony capitalists.
Shivakumar said farmers and the working classes are suffering under the BJP rule and have forced the farmers to agitate against the Union government.
The KPCC Chief said the farmers have been agitating against the Modi government’s anti-farmer laws and policies for almost a year now and alleged that the Union government had not made genuine efforts to discuss with the agitating farmers by adopting rigid stands.
The farming community, which has contributed a lot for the country’s progress and has been feeding the nation through their hard work, has suffered during the last seven years under Modi regime, Shivakumar said extending his personal support to the Bharat Bandh call given by farmers.
"We extend the moral support from the Congress party and hope that the Bandh will be peaceful,’’ Shivakumar said.
Earlier, he participated in the ‘’Sahaya Hasta’’ (Helping Hand) programme organized by Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao in memory of his father and former Chief Minister R Gundu Rao to mark his 84th birth anniversary.
Congress Opposition leader in the Assembly and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Dinesh Gundu Rao’s wife Tabu, former Mayor Padmavathi, Distritct Congress President Shekhar and other leaders participated in the function.
