Bangalore, Oct 18:
Even as the B S Yeddyurappa-led BJP regime won a temporary reprieve from the Karnataka High Court when it effectively ordered the disqualification of the 16 MLAs, including 11 from the ruling party and 5 Independents, to continue until the final decision by different judges, the opposition Congress has accused the BJP leaders of trying to bribe 53 of its 73 MLAs to the tune of Rs 50 crore.

Congress opposition leader in the Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah alleged that the Yeddyurappa regime was moving heaven and earth to win over the party MLAs by resorting to another ''Operation Kamala" for engineering defections and thereby improve its slender majority in the House.

''The party will launch a state-wide agitation to expose the alleged horse trading," he said charging that 53 of its 73 MLAs have been offered money and even offered ministerial berths by BJP leaders when its 11 BJP rebel and five independent MLAs withdrew support to the Yeddyurappa government.

The ruling BJP was indulging in horse-trading to keep its government in power and claimed that Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has no legal and moral right to continue in office, he said.

Addressing the media after a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party, he said none of Congress MLAs were ready to defect from the party.

“We are all united. Some MLAs whom the BJP leaders contacted over phone have recorded the conversation. We will soon make them public," Siddaramaiah said.

He said the meeting condemned the Chief Minister and state BJP President K S Eswarappa for their statements aimed at converting the minority status of the government to a majority.

Eshwarappa had recently said that his “party’s doors are open for (opposition) MLAs," Siddaramaiah recalled.

Rahim Khan (Bidar MLA) and Suresh Gowda (Nagamanagala MLA) claimed that they have also been contacted by BJP leaders when it fell short of majority.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Working President D K Shivakumar said party would reveal the proof on horse trading to media and also submit details to Governor H R Bhardwaj.

A delegation would be taken to Delhi to seek legal action against defections being encouraged by the BJP. “Legally and morally, Yeddyurappa has no right to continue in office for even a moment," he said.

The CLP, which held its meeting ahead of the High Court taking up for hearing petitions regarding disqualification of 11 rebel BJP MLAs, has decided to meet again on Tuesday to discuss the political situation in the state.

M C Ashwath, the JD-S MLA, who abstained from voting on October 14, had resigned his Assembly membership.

The BJP has already sought disqualification of Manappa Vajjal, Lingsugur MLA, who also abstained from the voting on last Thursday.

Why these Politicans always wear White Clothes? The way these politicians behave and the corruption and bribes they are involved in, they are not even fit to wear a piece of cloth on their body! The whole lot is shameless devoid of any characteristics of a true politician. What a state our Karnataka has been brought into? Only God can save our state.

Voters think, check the background of your electoral candidates prior to voting. It is not the party that matters but the person you choose to serve you.

This is the price a party has to pay for giving ticket to party jumpers because they can't stay in one party for long. Instead of this, if the party gives ticket only to loyalists, they will always be loyal to the party for 5 years (or may be for lifetime).

If they offered 50 crores to Rahim Khan, am sure he not only leaves Congress but also his wife and religion (buy 1 get 2 free case). In my opinion, only guy really made money as advance is none other than cow-expert Bhardwaj. But JD(S) strip him to naked to recover money if he try to run away without bring down BJP government.

Why these congress leaders are making dramas here? when their high command is sleepin in Delhi. What prevented you people to take action against Reddy brothers by using FEMA rules and other avenues as they are instrumental for horse trading in Karnataka? If Congress high command continues to sleep like this it is definitely the end of Congress rule in Karnataka. They have to forget the state as Gujarat. What your central ministers are doing? Probably, they are also corrupt like BJP in Karnataka.

What is going on in Karnataka state since 06th October 2010? I really surprised to see the developments in political circle. I don’t understand how the MLA who elected with the party ticket changes his stand in assembly!! How can these MLA’s change the party within nights? They do not have any moral right to be a politician to represent the people. Once the person elected with the party ticket, he should not be allowed to change the party for whole term.

If he wants to change, first resign and face fresh election. Today we can see every party offering in crores to change their party/stand. Is it the people who stand in the queue and vote for them are fools? Whether we people can unite and throughout these unworthy people? If you see today’s Karnataka political scenario all parties doing the same.

Then whom you rank good politician or bad politician? They should have been the role model for the people whom they represent. Whether BJP doing right or JD(S)/Congress? We people of Karnataka should think & vote when next opportunity comes.
