As many as 100 writers have been invited to the meet that will feature a variety of cultural activities everyday on four platforms, Dr Alva added.

Litterateur Vaidehi will preside over the event ‘Alva’s Nudisiri – 2010,’ the seventh such annual Kannada cultural extravaganza, organized by Alva's Education Foundation. This is the first time in the history of Alva’s Nudisiri that a woman is presiding over the programme.

Janaki Shrinivas Murthy, whose pen name is Vaidehi, was born in Kundapur on February 12, 1945, and is a BCom graduate. She is a popular Kannada fiction writer and poet, renowned for her espousal of the cause of women.

Her writings which have been translated in various languages like Gujarati, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and English, are generally described as postmodernist that depict the plight of women in an indignant and rebellious tone. In fact, it is said that her creative self blossomed as a result of her encounters with patriarchy, in search of her personal freedom.
