Mangaluru, Sep 29: After a gap of about two months, all kinds of vehicles have been permitted to move through the national highway 75 between Bengaluru and Mangaluru after the Donigal area of the highway was repaired and found to be fit to take on heavy vehicular traffic.

Hassan district deputy commissioner, R Girish, issued this order. With this, the Shiradi Ghat road, one of the most important communication links with the outside world, has been allowed to be used by even heavy vehicles to the relief of the people of Dakshina Kannada district.

The order has allowed movement of all kinds of light and heavy vehicles between Marnahalli and Donigal stretch of the highway which falls within Hassan district limits. The order is effective from September 28.

The district superintendent of police has been asked to deploy police personnel on this road. District national highway department executive engineer and highway administration and assistant executive engineer, Sakleshpur national highway division etc have been asked to set up necessary boards containing directions and instructions and to undertake proper publicity for the benefit of the general public.

The deputy commissioner has ordered to appoint executive engineer of the district national highways department and project director of Project Implementation Unit as the officers responsible for the technical system of the traffic movement.

Traffic on the road had been barred from July 22 after the mud wall adjoining the highway started to crumble near Donigal. Vehicles were asked to move via Bisale ghat road and Charmadi. However, heavy vehicles found it very difficult to move on this road. Now they have heaved a sigh of relief.
