Bengaluru, Oct 2: Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for refusing to listen or respond to the plight of farmers, State Congress President D K Shivakumar said it was ironical that Modi and BJP is trying to own up Mahatma Gandhi, who fought for the rights of farmers.

Addressing a function at the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee office in Bengaluru on Saturday to celebrate the birth anniversaries of Gandhiji and former Prime Minister Lal BahaduruShastri, Shivakumar attacked the Modi government and the Prime Minister for not bothering to personally hear the farmers, who have been waging a non-violent protest on the Delhi borders for the last 10 months.

The KPCC Chief said Gandhiji had presided over the Congress session held in Belagavi in 1924 and it is privilege for all Congressmen to be part of the same party, which cannot be claimed by any other party. ``Nobody can match or speak about Gandhiji’s sacrifices or the model life of Shastri,’’ he said.

He said a big and spacious party office has been built in Belagavi. It will be named as Gandhi Bhavan on December 28 to mark the party’s foundation day, he said pointing out that the issue has been discussed with all party leaders.

Shivakumar criticised the Modi government for not bothering to listen to the woes of farmers and also the Basavaraj Bommai not keeping its promise to provide compensation to the farmers in the State.

He lashed out that the Bommai government for going out of the way in promoting and implementing the National Education Policy, which was not even discussed in parliament, and even the BJP ruled States like Gujarat and Uttara Pradesh have not implemented it so far.

The NEP is harmful to the country and the minds of the younger generation. The Modi government and Bommai regime are out to poison the minds of the students and are out to propagate teaching outdated policies and ideologies, he said.

The KPCC chief said the list of office-bearers and other panels will be reconstituted by the end of this month and asked all partymen to work for the success of Congress candidates in Hanagal and Sindhagi assembly by-elections to be held later this month.

Congress Opposition leader in the Assembly Siddaramaiah, former Chief Minister M Veerappa Moily, former Union Minister K H Muniyappa, KPCC Working President Saleem Ahmed, former Minister H Anjaneya, Mahila Congress President Pushpa Amarnath, MLC U B Venkatesh and other leaders participated in the celebrations held in the party office.

The BJP Govt has made a mockery of Parlimentary Democracy by passing these Farm Bills without any discussion in the house or taken any Parlimentary bodies into confidence. It is clear to the people of our country that these three farm bills was a dubious case of match fixing by Modi and Amit Shah for their crony capitalists friends like Ambani and Adani. The elaborate advance preparations , go downs, super markets, land acquisitions and other arrangements by industrialists Abmani and Adani are already in the public domain. These crony capitalists will then dominate the agriculture sector and render the farmers vulnerable and vanquished. . They finally passed it in the Rajya Sabha in a most deceitful manner through a voice vote just to please their Crony Capitalist friends at the expense of the Farmers. A Suit Boot Ki Sarkar that is totally insensitive, Callous, Indifferent, Arrogant and Autocratic that cares two hoots for the lower sections of our society including farmers. "Since Independence, it is for the first time that an arrogant government has come to power. It is not even looking at the pain and sufferings of farmers, forget about the common man,"If Agriculture is a State subject the why has the center passed Bills on Farm Laws on Agriculture

Mahatma Gandhi (MG) believed in non-violence, but DK Shi slapped an elder man publicly. MG formally acknowledged in his letter to then President Rajendra Prasad that British left India on their own and we should be grateful to them and was clearly upset about Ashoka Chakra, but wanted his charaka to be part of the national flag. If non-violence was reason for success, we should not have armed forces in India and spend billions every year. If Charka that represents freedom struggle which is again a narrative and not a fact based on MG's letter, Congressis who take credit for Independence should only wear Khadhi. I have no illussion that DK Shi will never invest his a singel paisa from his enormous capital promoting Kadhi Bhandar. Moily, DKShi and the likes cannot be compared with intellects like Nehru, Indira or the likes that Congress inherited, but are product of the polity they promoted in post-independence era. Last cent on farmers; it looks like agriculture is absent outside Punjab and everywhere else, farmers are a tool for failed INC in their failed attempt to get back at ruling party.

Farmers were among the worst sufferers of BJP rule. Farmers resisted the exploitation and started to organize collective protests and movements against so called farmers bill
