Mangaluru, Oct 6: Various Tulu organizations, activists and leaders had come together for the cause of Tulu language and given a call for peaceful protest on Tuesday October 5 in support of the demand to grant Tulu the status of recognised language. However, the police department did not issue permission for the protest. Therefore, the protest had to be cancelled. People supporting Tulu language and culture had condemned in unison the police department's action.
On Tuesday, leaders of various organizations involved with activities relating to Tulu language went in a procession from Jyothi Circle here to Pandeshwar police station to register their anguish. The leaders had put on the PPE kits during the procession.
The station house officer, taking cognizance of the protest, informed that in the future, permission will be given for pro-Tulu activities. Roshan Ronald, activist fighting for the recognition of Tulu language by including it in schedule 8 of the Indian Constitution, said that the protest held on Tuesday was the mark of victory for Tulu language and culture. He also said that peaceful protest by Tuluvas will be held before December this year, and if the recognition for Tulu language remains elusive even then, intense forms of protest will be launched in support of the above demand from January 2022 onward.
Gautham Bolther, RoshanRonald, Jithesh Shetty, Rupesh Poojary, and Santhosh Kudla were among those who took part in the protest, duly wearing the PPE kits.
