Karkala, Oct 7: Sadiq from Pattonjikatte in the town was arrested by the personnel of the town police station here on Wednesday October 6, based on a complaint of rape filed by a lady. The complainant, who belongs to Adidravida community, said that Sadiq had lent her money and then blackmailed her. She also claimed that she was harassed repeatedly and raped.

The complainant came to know about Sadiq two years back. Later, she borrowed Rs 15,000 from him. Sadiq used to visit her house often, demanding the loan amount back. After he was told not to come home, he provided a mobile phone to the lady and used to call the lady and demand his money back. Three months back, it is said, he took her to a house in Pattonjikatte, demanded his money back, and used her sexually under duress, the girl said. He had captured her photos in his mobile and used to blackmail her on the basis of the photos. He also threatened to tarnish her reputation if she did not cooperate with him.

The lady said that Sadiq asked her to come to the house at Pattonjikatte on October 6, duly threatening to visit the factory where she works and expose her photos captured in the mobile if she does not follow his instruction. Feeling threatened, the girl went to the house in Pattonjikatte where the youth was present alone. When Sadiq caught hold of her and tried to rape her, the lady escaped from him and ran away, she claimed.

On the basis of her complaint, a case of rape was lodged and Sadiq was arrested.
