Mangaluru: CCTV exposes senior GP member's indecent advances, arrested

Mangaluru, Oct 8: The sexual harassment meted out by a senior gram panchayat (GP) member to a lady who had visited the GP to hand over an application seeking house site, happened in the room of the Munnuru gram panchayat president. A complaint stands filed in this regard in Ullal police station and the accused stands arrested.

A woman had come to the GP office to apply for a house site. Babu Shetty, a panchayat member, had led the lady directly to the room of president, Wilfred D'Souza. The president had left the room then.

Babu Shetty then sent the children accompanying the lady outside the room and continued to sexually harass the lady till the president returned to the room. His act was recorded in the CCTV. Later, a delegation of Democratic Youth Federation of India met the gram panchayat president, Wilfred, and sought punitive action against the erring gram panchayat member.

The woman thereafter filed complaint in Ullal police station based on which a case of sexual atrocity stands filed. Ullal police have since taken the accused into custody.
