Customs officials seize smuggled gold worth over Rs 43.88 lac at Mangaluru International Airport

Mangaluru, Oct 8: The officers of Customs at Mangaluru International Airport on Friday October 8, thwarted an attempt to smuggle gold by a passenger from Dubai.

The accused passenger, from Kasargod, Kerala, disembarked Air India Express IX384 coming from Dubai in the early hours of Friday.

He tried to smuggle gold by concealing it in powder form inside a specially stitched pocket in the underwear.

Gold of net weight 920.000 grams valued at Rs 43,88,400 was seized from the passenger.

A case was booked against the passenger by the Customs department.

    Why is the name of the passenger not given, more so, when he has indulged in a cognizable offence of bringing in gold in a concealed form and not reporting it to the Customs? Is there any rule which prohibits the Customs department from revealing names?

    Readers, MIA has relatively less passenger traffic, yet the pandemic of smuggling continues unabated.. even Mumbai airport has considerable less reported cases of contraband smuggling.. These modules are determined to carry out these nefarious antinational activities..only extremely stringent sections of the law will have salutary effects on these termites !!!

    MIA has been leased to Gautam Adani to administer and maintain the airport premises. Customs and immigration are still being handled by Central Government staff. Adani doesn't have sovereignty over MIA. Try to know the difference.
