Ace State Level Book Exhibition to Quench Readers Thirst

Mangalore, Oct 24: Under the auspices of Kannada Pustaka Pradhikara and district administration, a state-level book exhibition and sales has been organized at Nehru Maidan in the city from Sunday October 24 to Sunday October 31. The exhibition will be open from 10.00 am to 9.00 pm.

District in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar inaugurated the book exhibition and said that this kind of state-level book exhibition and sales is organized in the city for the first time. He hoped that this
would evoke good response as the people of the district are known to have thirst for knowledge. The book exhibition will quench their thirst, he added. He also observed that readers don’t have to wander
in search of books as books on different subjects are available under one roof.

Minister said, "The state government has been taking keen interest in promoting worthy books, and as a result the government allotted Rs 4.20 crore to Kannada Pradhikara and in addition to that every year Rs
one crore is granted, he added.

Speaking on the occsion, Siddalingaih, chairman of Kannada Pustaka Pradhikara said that 87 publications and 120 book stalls have already been placed here to cater the needs of book lovers. He called upon every reader to make use of the availed facility. Various publications from all over the state have arrived with their books. Books are sold at discount rates, he said.

K Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, president of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, N Yogish Bhat, Mangalore South MLA, MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik, Mangalore MLA U T Khader and Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, state
convenor, Kannada Pustaka Pradhikara among others were present.

During the course of the exhibition, cultural programmes have been organized in Rani Abbakka Vedike, Shivarama Karantha Mantap erected for the purpose.
