Mangaluru, Oct 9: Work on the Olympic level swimming pool complex, construction of which has been undertaken by Smart City project, is continuing at a brisk pace in spite of support and opposition it has encountered so far. It has been planned to dedicate the pool to the world by the end of the year 2022.
The ground level will be used for parking purposes while the first level will house the swimming pool. The ceiling of the ground floor will form the bottom of the swimming pool. Work on the side walls of the pool and the area where the audience get seated are going on. On the other side, office, gym etc will be constructed. There will be roofing over the swimming pool.
The project cost of the swimming pool is Rs 24.94 crore. Once it is inaugurated, the city can hold national and international level swimming competitions. At the same time, candidates from the city can get trained to participate in the international events and competitions.
This complex will have three swimming pools, one of which will be for the purpose of competitions. The other two are for practice and a small pool for the children. First aid room, anti-dumping, room of judges, officials’ room, physiotherapy, record room, toilets, shower room, filtration plant, pump room etc will be housed in the complex. In the ground floor, over 50 cars and two-wheelers can be parked.
The project also includes the development of Yemmekere ground located adjacent to the pool. Levelling the ground with mud and developing are planned. The officials said that apart from levelling the ground, gallery for the audience modelled after steps will be built on one side.
