Doha, Oct 10: In a heartbreaking incident, a man of Indian origin along with two children lost their lives at Maroona beach on Friday October 8, local media reported.
The deceased have been identified as Balaji Balaguru (38), his son Rakshan (10), and a girl named Varshini Vaidyanathan (12) belonging to another family.
The Doha Globe reported that as per the information shared by Kumar Ranganathan, a relative of Balaji, a huge wave swept away Balaji and the three children, even though they had entered the water at a shallow point. "Balaji and Varshini died at the spot and Rakshan died after three hours at Sidra Hospital. The doctors tried their best to resuscitate him," Ranganathan told The Doha Globe.
Tamilian in origin, Balaji was from Kumbhakonam while Varshini hailed from Chennai.
Balaji worked as a senior electrical engineer at KEO International Consultants in Doha, while his son Rakshan was a grade 5 student of Birla Public School. Varshini was studying in grade 7 at DPS Monarch International School.
They were family friends and had gone to the beach on Friday to enjoy the weekend, the report stated.
The mortal remains will be flown to India and the last rites will be held in Tamil Nadu.
