Udupi, Oct 11: A person who had ventured near a river to undertake fishing with the help of a fishing rod slipped and drowned accidentally. This tragic incident happened on the evening of Sunday October 10.
The unfortunate victim of this incident was Dileep (33). He was a resident of Shirva Mattaru. He had carved out a niche for himself in the area of performing during the religious rituals which requires a lot of skills. He had earned fame as a performer of Babbuswamy Daiva in particular.
It is said that a three-member team together went near the Nadinbettu dam in Shirva for fishing. Among them, Dileep slipped and fell into the river, it is said.
Shirva police, fire brigade personnel and expert diver from Malpe, Ishwar Malpe, undertook operation to retrieve the youth's body. The operation was continued till late night hours but there was no progress. Because of the problem of visibility, the operation was suspended and undertaken again on Monday morning.
The body was found in the same place where Dileep had drowned. Fire service officials had gone around a 5-km radius in search for the body.
