Udupi: Government Denotifies Srikrishna Mutt from Muzrai Department’s Ambit

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Oct 28: The state government, after protracted deliberations, has released the famous pilgrimage centre, Srikrishna Mutt here, from the jurisdiction of the state muzrai department. This was stated by higher education minister, Dr V S Acharya, on Wednesday October 27.

“At the time the previous Uniform Act was brought into force, the Mutt was included in the list of notified religious centres under section 23 of Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act, 1997. A request made by the Mutt to denotify it, has been favourably considered after taking opinions from legal experts,” the minister explained.

It may be noted that before May 1, 2003, the religious institutions in the district were covered by Madras Hindu Religious and Endowments Act 1951. While both temples and Mutts were covered by the previous act, the government has the power to exempt Mutts and also the temples functioning under them, from the purview of the act as per section 1 (4) (1) of the said act, Acharya said. He also added that while taking this decision, the government has taken into account various points mentioned in the judgment delivered by the Supreme Court in the civil appeal, and also that the Mutt has since ancient times, been managed by the eight Mutts, and that the worship procedures and management have traditionally been handled through a system of Paryaya (rotation).

The denotification has come with certain conditions, like the Mutt should continue to accord the right of darshan of the deity to common people as before, and that this order is subject to the orders that may be passed by courts where suits are pending. Another condition that the Mutt has been asked to comply is that the government’s prior permission has to be obtained by it before modifying or demolishing buildings and monuments of religious and historic importance.

Acharya also said that several such requests made by Mutts and temples in the district are also under active consideration.

Paryaya Sri Lakshmivarateertha Swamiji has expressed joy at the government’s decision to keep Srikrishna Mutt out of the muzrai department’s jurisdiction.

But What to do? People like shout that 'It is for Conversion'. Now in your own comment you said Minorities having food in Temple. Don't you think this is also for Conversion?

For all those who are jealous of Mr.Modi's achivements, pls note the development taken place during his tenure is one & the only of such a kind, not only in terms of infrastructure, but also in communal harmony, prevailing peace in the stae....One must think back why the Godhra incidence took place,Modi is not the one who initiated that.People who tried to create problem ended up suffering on it.I think the reaction by the people on the incidence helped curtailing the incidence from recurring.Mr.Modi is undoubtedly one of the great CM India has seen!!

    Dear M.Bhat.

We know what you are telling is lie nothing but white lie. Govt is not helping any madrassas/masjids or churches. Its all tax payers money. Only Mr Verendra Heggade is spending lots on social welfare. But in other temples there is litigation for the trusthip of the said proerty as these are the places generating unaccounted money. That too from devotees and goes to the private pocket of trustees and seers. Most of the development work is done by sponsors and devotees and even in the govt grant noting is spent for the devotees but deposited in the privvate bank account.

We welcome the move but the accounts to be subjected to an audit. At the same time, they should not change the structure of the temple, particularly 'Kanakana Kindi' and Kanaka Gopura without permission of the Govt., because of this historical event, the temple was famous for. The Brahmin management should treat all devotees as 'equal' and should not arrange for separate 'prasadam' for Brahmins and others.

Its true the temple area is not only dirty, but totally undeveloped.Government must take a neccessary action in changing the present look.
As far as the action by state governement ,it is a good move to exempt the temples from the endowment/muzrai.I dont see why some people are having objection when they have their religious places enjoying the same benifit for years now.

Nagesh Nayak, why don't you ask L K Advani's successor as Opposition leader in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, who is the AMMA of Bellary Reddy brothers and is responsible for saving your great leader Yeddyurappa's CHAIR last year, about what she thinks of Narendra Modi. While Reddys may agree with their AMMA, Yeddyurappa may not. Tell us now, whether you agree with Sush-AMMA or still think Modi will become PM. Be honest and don't talk like a politician and let everybody know whether Modi should be PM or Sushma! If you cannot answer this question, then please keep quiet and don't disturb Daiji readers.
