About Namma Angadi

‘Namma  Angadi’  had  been  set  up  in  1992  to  help  the village-based  craftsmen,  who could  not  visualize  a  future  for their  occupations  due  to  dwindling  demand  for traditional products and lack of raw materials. These hindrances  led to the migration of  rural people to urban areas (especially children)  in search of jobs and livelihood. Thus  Namma  Angadi  was  set  up  to  revive the  village  economy and  support  the livelihood  of  rural artisans.  It  is  an  initiative  of  Namma  Bhoomi, regional training centre of CWC (Concerned for Working Children), a Bangalore-based NGO.

Namma  Angadi  strives  towards  excellence  through interventions from  various experts, advanced training for graduate children, improved product designs, financial management and marketing.

About Namma Bhoomi

Namma  Bhoomi  is  a  vocational  training  wing  of  CWC  (Concerned for Working Children,  a  Bangalore-based  non-governmental  organization.  It imparts  vocation training  such  as  weaving,  tailoring,  pottery  and  other  art forms  to  underprivileged children.  It  is  located  in  the  Udupi  district  at  the foothills  of  the  Western  Ghats  on  the  bank  of  the  river Varahi  in  Kundapura  Taluk.

The  6.25-acre  campus  has been designed  to  give  working  children  a  chance  to  continue  their education  and also relieve  the  immediate  burden  of  survival. They  felt  that  a  residential programme  would  create  an environment  where  caste  and  gender  bias  could  be broken  and a  new value system nurtured by examining and analyzing one’s society and the larger milieu in which we live. The campus has residential accommodation, educational and training facilities for over 100 young girls and boys. It is in function for more than 15 years.
