Beltangady, Oct 19: A married lady living in Putya in Kokkada village ended her life by hanging herself on Monday October 18 in Putya in the taluk. It is said that she was frustrated by dowry harassment she suffered from her husband constantly.

The lady who sacrificed her life was Rashmita C R (28), wife of Rajesh from Putya village. The couple was married two years ago, and Rashmita is survived by a year-old son. On coming to know about the suicide, her husband, Rajesh, too tried to end his life but the locals saved him.

Rashmita's demise was conveyed to her father by people known to him. Rashmita's father, Ravichandra, in a complaint filed in Dharmasthala police station, alleged that Rashmita was killed by her husband for dowry and that he has been projecting it as suicide. On the basis of this complaint, the police have registered a case of dowry harassment.

    Are all the commentators listed in this post ignorant of the ban on dowry and the criminalization undr the Indian Penal Code? If so, how are ignorant, uneducated people to know? Are all th ecommentators above ignorant of dowry prohibition laws and the provision of the Indian Penal Code as amended in 1983 which makes it a criminal offence to demand/give dowry? In that case, some publicity should be made to educate families.

    What's wrong with this young gen.. If they can't face any problem in life,, then why to give birth to kids... now the poor kid has to suffer.. Who will give it the mothers love.. How can she hang herself when having such a small kid.... whatever the situation is... yes there will be problems in life. few which are unbearable.. but nothing will remain the same after few years.. and it's totally upon us how we take it... suicide is not the option at all .. that too leaving behind the ones who are totally dependent on us... We have to change the education system... first let the education system teach people how to lead a peaceful life.. rather than catechism, moral science and other religious teachings in school.. importance should be given on counseling

    Really very sad to hear that a young lady has lost her life. Pls don't give in to such circumstance and learn to become strong and face such situation. Learn to walk away from the life of such cruel men. They are not real men who harass women for dowry.

    Not sure what you had... chai or ????, so be it.... no point in responding to first & the better part of your response..., let me enlighten you on to the last two sub-point.... Thanks for complement (for being acknowledging at one or the other point of time as decent), and in regards to the last point - let me say the least ..... the smell of Cheddi is emanating from every nook & corner of the society.... no need for anyone to reach it to smell.... the jobless thugs pulling it from gutter & dustbin... and trying to spread it everywhere.....!!!!! Don't be envious of prefix CA..... if you have a problem to see it being associated against my nomenclature, I can't help..... you can only console yourself by attributing as FEKU one..., after all aaj kal wohi tho chal raha hai na..., let me conclude to relieve your stress on a lighter note.. by suggesting to have one dose of Cow Urine instead of chai.....,

    Actors, script writers, i have seen them all. I will gjve you a 2 out 10.You need to be more convincing. A Girish, A CA can never ever write in a fanatic way, the way you have. A CA has a balanced view and is mostly concerned with figures, at the outset. How can a Girish write about Cheddis, the way you have? Impossible. Whoever you are, be decent and respect everybody. It is for your own good. Don't vever carry the burden of hatredness. It will weigh you fown.

    Well all seem to be experts in linking politics to suicides, dowry harassment deaths and such matters. Somehow link is drawn... However i Wonder how even 1 or 2 children are born in such cases !     Dowry is prohibited by Indian law. In the 1983 amendment to the Indian Penal Code, it is a criminal offence to harass, demand and give dowry. As soon as such a situation arises in a marriage, marriage is in trouble. It may sometimes be the husband is unemployed and cannot support the family and knows that wife's family has enough money or property to help out. So long as the wife's parents have money, they seem to be the "cash cow" for the husband. Harassment will not stop until a complaint is lodged and an FIR issued against the husband for demanding, or topping up. dowry. Suicides can be stopped if the wife and her parents lodge an immediate complaint.

    Dowry related deathwhen a wife is driven to suicide, are indeed tragic especially when there are little children to take care of. This should be stopped. The law against dowry should be fully enforced. Dowry Prohibition laws is part of India's Penal Code which was amended in 1983 to make it illegal and to punish those who demand and give dowries. The moment this question is raised in a marriage, there is going to be trouble and the husband will not stop until he exacts every penny he can get from the parents of the wife even after many years of marriage. A wife, or any female child of a parent, must be given equal rights of inheritance in their parents' property. If a dowry harassment complaint is lodged with the police and an FIR is issued, and the husband is taken into custody, suicides will end. The provisions of the law must be explained through public forums so people understand their rights and protection against any harassment and this publicity and awareness should be given from time to time in simple ways and simple language.
