Doha: Karnataka Sangha' s First Badminton Tourney Grand Success

Qatar, Oct 31: Karnataka Sangha Qatar, organized a badminton tournament for Kannadiga’s living here for the very first time at the Indian club premises on October 22 to October 29.

The tournament received an overwhelming response with more than 60 players taking part in 5 different categories. Ladies Singles, Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles were held on October 22 and Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles was held on October 29. 




































The winners in different categories are as follows:

Ladies Singles - Winners - Akshaya Shetty,  Runners-up - Vijaya Shetty
Ladies Doubles - Winners - Milan Arun & Vijaya Shetty,  Runners-up Srilatha Bhaskar  & Gayathri Shivakumar
Mixed Doubles - Winners - Manas Shetty & Akshaya Shetty,  Runners-up - Ravi Shetty & Shobha Shetty
Men’s Singles - Winners - Swaroop, Runners-up Sudhir Shetty
Men’s Doubles Winners - Ravi & Sudhir Shetty,  Runners-up Prakash & Sashidhar

Prize Distribution Ceremony

Prize Distribution Ceremony was held at the Indian Club Premises on October 29 where M R Qureshi, second secretary (PIC & Education) was the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion Arun Kumar, president of KSQ thanked the players and the spectators for their support and announced the intention of organizing even a bigger event next year to accommodate more people. Trophies were distributed to the winners by Qureshi. Match referees Sam Premraj of Ideal Indian School and Milan Arun (head of ICC Affiliations) were honoured with a memento.

Among present during the tournament were V Mannangi, vice-president, KSQ, K Prabhakar and Arvind Patil, former presidents of KSQ, Tulukoota president Ramachandra Shetty and former presidents of Tulukoota Ravi Shetty, Prakashchandra Ajila and Divakar Poojary.

Deepak Shetty sports secretary of KSQ compered the proceedings and proposed the vote of thanks.

    Thank you Arun for the wonderful Badminton Tournament first time ever among the Indian Community. Thanks Deepak for the finest arrangement. Terrific matches, nail biting finals, and superb wins....credit goes to KSQ TEAM.

    If you are in Qatar and an indian expatriate, you would have surely known who is Mr.Qureshi.He is the second secretary at the Indian Embassy here in doha Qatar.Well most of my committee knows him.Teach him kannada??? self assesment????
    For your information Embassy officials are invited for all the functions conducted by Indian expatriate associations.
