Mangalore, Oct 31: A newborn was found abandoned in drainage near Chembarpu house, Kaniyoor, Kanyana in Bantwal taluk and was fortunate enough to be alive and now is admitted at the District Wenlock Hospital.

Monappa Shetty, a labourer at a house of Shyama Bhat heard some strange voice akin to the whining of a dog. He realized that it was a baby's cry and found a female child in a drainage. Soon he informed the 108 ambulance service.

After a bath, the child was brought to Wenlock hospital and is now under observation at the ICU.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Monapapa Shetty evinced interest in looking after the girl child for he is already the father of two boys. Even his spouse Indira Monappa Shetty is desirous to do the same.

He said that he has already filled and submitted the application form which is required as part of formalities for adoption. He has also requested the authority concerned to shift the baby to a hospital in Vittal, a place closer to his house. The hospital authority however said that they can shift the baby only after a week's time.

The whereabouts of the baby's parents is not yet known, nor the reason for its abandonment.

You are a God sent person and I personally feel that you will bring up this girl to become a good human being. May your home be filled with peace and happiness with this cute little bundle of joy. Girl child is a blessing in disguise and not a curse and those who think girl child is a curse, I can only say that they are the most unfortunate people on this earth. God Bless.

I am very glad that Mr. Shetty and the little girl have so many well wishers here. However, you all need to know that to adopt a baby one must produce proof of certain volume of assets to ensure that he indeed has the capacity to look after the child. Not having a daughter isn't a satisfactory reason their financial condition is very important. I sincerely hope that Monappa Shetty can manage to qualify for this requirement and the child finds a home.

Thank God the mother did not abort the child in her womb. It is not necessary that this child is illegally concieved. Let us not jump to conclusions without knowing the full facts. It could be that the mother already has other daughters and the pressure from the family might have driven her to abandon this child. Whatever may be the case, Monappa and Indira should be commended for not only saving this child but also showing willingness to adopt her. May God Bless this couple.

I agree with Lydia, these kind of sad incidents are mostly happeing in big cities like Mumbai. How can people abondon their own child. This is a very sinful act, for which God will never forgive the pepetrators of such a heinous crime where the child is abondoned for no fault of her. Just because children are helpless and cannot protect themselves. The adult world including their own parents cause them harm. The authorities should relent to Mr. Monappa's noble guesture and give him the child for adoption.

New born was found abandoned because baby is a Girl !CRUEL WORLD ! Just couple of days ago, baby girl was thrown out form the Hospital's toilet window in India.Unfortunately baby died because of severe head injury. We say Indians are kind hearted emotional people.I don't think so.We are greedy, jealous & cruel people when compared to others.Regarding baby girl I should bring to your notice one interesting thing. That is about CWG Gold winner Badminton star Saina Nehwal. When she was born, her close relatives didn't come to see her and her mother.Grandmother came to see her only after a month ! Luckily,Saina's parents didn't throw or abandon her. They gave full support to her.Rest is history. Now she is the Golden Star of India ! Now her relatves are slowly trying to keep in touch with her.Saina may be telling "Every Dog Has a Day ! "

These days, girls are never a burden on their parents as they have the possibility to get free education and several schemes to their 'credit' of 'being a girl'. Moreover, in several cases, it is the girls who stand by their aged parents. I wonder what societal forces pressurize the desertion of female children still....

Too humane of Monappa Shetty. Let us not go looking for those who abandoned the baby but be happy for she is found alive. If someone who deserve her as a daughter, its Monappa Shetty. If he had otherwise sought adoption, he would have disqualified for some or the other reason.

Its high time that the govt relaxes adoption restrictions so that financially able families get a chance to do service to community by adopting deserted children than leaving them to die or grow up in orphanages.
