Karnataka’s Progress on Account of Liberal Central Grants: Kharge

Karnataka’s Progress on Account of Liberal Central Grants: Kharge

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Oct 31: Karnataka has achieved progress on fronts not just because of the State BJP Government’s efforts but also on account of release of funds liberally by the Centre under various anti-poverty and infrastructure programmes, Union Labour Minister M Mallikarjuna Kharge said on Sunday.

Paying homage to late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 26th death anniversary at a function organised at the Congress Bhavan here, Kharge said the BJP government hardly gives credit to the Centre for all-round performance of the State.

''The State government gives credit to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa for achieving the second rank in the implementation of the 20-point programme of the Centre but does not acknowledge the generous help it has been getting from the Centre,” he said.

The Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has emerged as the second top performer of the Centre’s 20 prorgamme after Gujarat during April-July 2010, according to a review conducted by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

The 20-point programme encompasses a host of poverty alleviation and rural development schemes.

Kharge said the Congress leaders and workers need to highlight the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government’s various anti-poverty and urban development programmes during the ensuing zilla and taluk panchayats.

At the same, the election campaign should also focus on failures of the Yeddyurappa government on various fronts during the last 30 months, he said.

Newly appointed Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President Dr G Parameshwar said he would give a fitting reply to the BJP’s allegations on payment of bills of the BJP rebels at an appropriate time.

The BJP had indulged in “low-level politics” and the Congress knew how to reply to its baseless charges, Dr Parameshwar said.

The BJP alleged that a company owned by a close relative of a prominent Union Minister from Karnataka footed the bills of BJP rebels who camped in a star hotel in Chennai.

Dr Parameshwar called upon the workers to emulate the ideals and sacrifices made by Indira Gandhi and fight collectively by setting aside differences to overthrow the Yeddyurappa government in the next Assembly elections.

The Congress has a long history and many achievements to its credit to dethrone the BJP from the power, he said.

Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah said the State ranked second in the 20-point programme due the timely release of funds by the Manmohan Singh Government.

The Centre releases Rs. 18,000 to Rs. 20,000 crore annually to the State under various programmes, he said.

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Motamma, former KPCC working president D K Shivakumar, former ministers Ramalinga Reddy and H M Revanna and MLA Dinesh Gundu Rao and others attended the programme and paid floral tribute to the former prime minister.

Lot of things are said about Congress, look at the CWG, it need not be that all the money what is allotted be utilised , they ate half of that & the Congress party must have got 0000's of crores share in the looted money, for the party fund, else Kalmadi & Sheela would have been packed by now. They are still continuing at office , because congress party has deployed them for this task of making money for the party. If in Karnataka the granted money was used effieciently its BJP governments achievement, why Congress leaders are not talking about 70000 Crores plus , which was wasted , especially because of the corruption.Every deal of CWG has corruption, why even after 3weeks no one is held responsible, they are probly busy in manupilating the records in the party and its leaders favour.
We know you are desperate to defame BJP,but the issue which you have taken up is backfiring on you, folks you are unfit even to talk about that!! People who make money in of Kargil martyre's names can go to any extent. The curses of families who sacrifised the lives of their bread & butter winners would haunt you for your life!!

The solution would be simple-as Congress has practiced over a long period of time- send Chavan as Governor to a BJP ruled State and ask him to make the life of the State Government difficult and stop all developments and send bhardvaj as CM to maharastra and ask him to practice corruption without being caught.

I think Yedurappan himself is surprised to have no.2 position. Because he knows he has done nothing since last 3yrs. He was unaware that Operation Lotus too is coming under 20 Points program. Congress has poured all the money into BJP ruled states to impress the voters that shows congress at centre is impartial. Only central govt’s 2000 crores had been utilized in Karnataka, but states funds are used for "operation Lotus". Hats-off to Sonia Gandhi, But poor Karnataka public thinks that’s this developments are from Yedyurappan. He is busy in visiting temples since last one month.

Please do not use Karnataka BJP policy of advertising the achievements and lover the people’s dignity of high esteem. People like Karnataka CM and health minister love to display their pictures on 108 ambulances and try to fool people, which should not be the policy of central government.

People who write from other countries please visit Bangalore to witness the posters of politicians on all the main roads. BJP, Congress and JDS spend millions on these stupid hoardings which ultimately goes from citizen’s pocket. The way these people spend, I feel it is very difficult to decrease corruption in Karnataka.

Kharge Saab, compare the national highways passing through Karnataka with our state highways or even with our villge roads, then talk about the grants of centre. The report is given after observing 20 different aspects. Centre gives more fund to congress ruled states compered to others but they are topped from the last. Shame on Congress which is trying to get the credit for the progress of Karnataka. First it should think about India has slipped from 78th place to 89th in a report which is based on the points like quality of education, healthcare, prosperity, economy, governance, etc.

Very immature utterance from the minister, which was not at all needed on the occasion. I will not be surprised, if the minister says that he has been misquoted by the media! The problem with congress is that they have experience of being in the government and they are very poor losers when they take up opposition seats. Not that opposition should not oppose constructively or destructively but it must be believable to a certain extent. To fire from all cylinders congressmen see me to have chosen leaders who are crude , arrogant and ready to flex their muscles , instead of decent politicians like SM Krishna etc. They should learn when to make a noise and when to remain silent. What a clown!
Do you think the Cental government is doing Karnataka a favour by giving money back?

Are they so excited about BJP in power- they decided to give more money?

Are you telling me that during the congress rule , less money was given ?

The way I see it is- every tax dollar goes up to the Cental level and then handed down- Story of every republic in the world.
The amount of money that comes back depends on the locally elected leaders (MP) and STATE government. More the lobbying, more the money.

So lets not start saying that the development in Karnataka is all because of Congress and JDs, Lets give the people credit were it lies.

Your statement actually acknowledge's that development has occoured but now- now you want to take credit - coz all else to topple the government has failed.

    Act like a responsible opposition.

We need money to come back to us ( money we pay in taxes- elect responsible people.

I can see Our Mangalore MP - using common sense and getting more pork to DK . We had a MP for may years and even beacme a powerful minister - who did not get much done, only devied us for votes and then defeated when people opened their eyes- We do not need career politicians, only determined and dedicated people

If Congress-Kharghe accepting the second rank status of the state, the information published is credible. There is no need to highlight the role of the center but what is important is to analyze the result. There are other congress ruled states not in first two ranking, means, it evident Congress mismanaged public money same as missing thousands of Crores under the name of CWG and same as swallowing money collected for flood victims by Karnataka Congress.

    Dear Kharge-ji,
Lets look at the list of top performers in the 20-point program.
    1 -> Gujarat, 2 -> Karnataka, 3 -> Jharkhand, 4 -> Punjab (All BJP or BJP with other party rule) 5 -> UP (BSP)

(Congress states does not even figure in top 10)

By Khargeji's logic UPA center government only gave money to non-congress ruled states.

Even if UPA gave money to Karnataka is it doing any favor to Karnataka by giving it these funds. Karnataka contributes to the central government funds by being a high tax collecting state. Khargeji please inform us whether these funds are in proportion to what Karnataka contributes centre.
