Bangalore: Alumni Rock the Evening at Reunion at St Joseph’s College

Media Release

Bangalore, Nov 1: They may have probably run around trees together, had common tea breaks, practiced dance steps, or perhaps, discussed about their future with each other at some point when they were on the campus in their yesteryears. Such and many more nostalgic moments were recreated at St Joseph’s College on Sunday October 31 when over 300 old students gathered for the annual reunion.

Organized and hosted by the Alumni Association of the College, indeed the alumni rocked the evening. Young, old, women, some with their family and kids, came together to feel the bond of being a proud Josephite and none could resist the temptation of shaking a leg or two for a dance finale that complimented the whole day’s events.

At the inauguration, principal Fr Ambrose Pinto said, “A College is known by its strong alumni. St Joseph’s is fortunate to have one. The alumni association of the college has done so much for the college and has proved that together we can really do much.” The president of the Association, Lakshminarayan said that the college was really the source behind all the success that individual students who passed out from here had achieved. “We are here today with all our credentials because of our alma-mater,” he said.

Later on it was fun all the way. Groups of same batch were seen huddling together and cherishing their glorious moments in the college. Some of them were meeting each other after many years. The participants ranged from the batch as old as 1962 to those who passed out just recently.

It was a perfect time for the reunion of old students. “For the first time I attended the alumni function. This was the place for young and old students to mingle freely,” said Mathew Cruz, who graduated from 1970 batch. “It was a very well organized event and hope the association becomes more popular. More and more students should participate in this reunion,” added Cruz.

“I had a great evening today. I love participating in music and dance. After a long time I got chance to dance with my old buddies. Great fun even at my age of 63 years,” said, Prakash Murthy from 1970 batch.

“I was very happy to attend this function and I enjoyed the evening dance which was indeed unique with young and old students dancing without hesitation,” said, Priya who graduated in 2008.

“It was one of the best days of my life. It was absolutely lovely. More than the studies, I cannot forget the enjoyment I had in this college, with my teachers and my lovely friends. Now I met them after a long time,” said, Sandeep S who finished his graduation in 2007.

Lavish food, funny games and, of course, foot-tapping music all added to the mood of the day.

What a great privilege to go back to the portals of The Alma Mater and think and reflect of the bygone days... of the teachers... of the mischief.... of the mentors....and of course about the values inculcated by The Jesuit Fathers of Sacred memory. I am not a JOSEPHITE but hold brotherly feelings towards the alumni as I am an Aloysian and sometimes am filled with nostalgia when I go back to my Alma Mater. It is unfortunate that none of my mentors - teachers - professors are living. I recall Albert Gonsalves who taught in middle school. Raphab, Pandurang Pai and Avil in High School and Father Ignatius Fernandes and Father Joseph Sequeira in College. Father Ignatius took particular interest in me and even thought that I would walk in his footsteps but The Good Lord had something else in store for me.

Congrats to all of you Josephites and particularly Father Ambrose Pinto on the celebrations. I miss these as I cannot trace more than a couple of my old friends as I happen to be an antique model - 1922.

GREAT DAY - though the number swelled better this time, would be happier with still a better gathering with more interactions with the past and the present.

It was great gathering but the same could have been better with some music and dance , and the batch introduction , and have a largest batch, and since you have all registered with you they could have been sent messages by email, then the story would be different . Also though the mention of National Congress was made there was no stress on the subject and did not encourage them to participate.

Everything is fine. It is, but, unfortunate there is no mention about the 69-70 batch felicitating Fr.Ambrose Pinto on his being slected for the year's Rajyotsava Award.
Neither there is any mention about the unanimous resolution moved in support of Br.Philip Noronha who was unnecessarily and unjustivfibly beaten up by public and even the police for no obvious fault of his copy of which is to be sent to the Police Commissioner, Home Minister and Chief Minister. It was moved in one voice by every member present at the get together.

I am sure you will include these two issues so that members who were present will feel proud and those who were absent will get to know the extent to which the Alumni can involve in bettering the Alma Mater.

    Thanks
    Sreesh Babu - 69 Batch
