Bengaluru, Oct 26: Continuing his tirade against the Congress during his electioneering in the Hangal and Sindgi assembly constituencies, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday accused the opposition party of being responsible for creating the concept of votebank politics in the country and exploiting the vulnerable and backward sections.
“The concept of votebank politics is anathema in a democracy as it deprives the people the opportunity to come up in life,’’ he said asserting that bringing the backward classes and all other vulnerable sections in the mainstream and ensuring that they get opportunities of employment, education and other avenues was his goal.
Bommai met leaders of the backward Bhovi and other communities and alleged that the Congress party was raising the bogie of caste and religion with an eye on votes. The Congress leaders are not talking about the development of all sections but raising divisive issues, he alleged.
The Chief Minister said the ruling BJP was aiming at the development of all sections and the Hangal as well as Sindgi assembly constituencies.
He claimed that he had worked for the development of Hangal constituency and the Haveri district in the past as a legislator and later as a minister. He promised to continue to work with the same commitment as Chief Minister.
