Mangalore: DC Ponnuraj’s Transfer Cancelled

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Nov 3: On Tuesday November 2, the state government, through an order, cancelled the transfer of Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC), V Ponnuraj, to Shimoga. Along with him, transfer orders of three more IAS officers and a KAS officer were also cancelled.

V Ponnuraj, an IAS officer, had been transferred to Shimoga district as DC in place of Pankaj Kumar Pandey. Pandey’s transfer order also stands cancelled, and he will continue as the DC of Shimoga district.

P Shivshankar, Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat chief executive officer, who was transferred as the chief executive officer of Shimoga zilla panchayat, has been retained in the present post. V B Patil, secretary of Karnataka Public Service Commission, who was posted as the director of Agricultural Market, will continue in his present post. G Ramachandra also will continue as the director of Agricultural Market.

Karnataka Administrative Service officer, A B Ibrahim, who was transferred as the commissioner of the local city corporation, has been posted as the chief administrative officer of Kaveri Irrigation Corporation having its headquarters at Mysore. In the meanwhile, Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, Krishna J Palemar, said that even the transfer of Mangalore city corporation commissioner, Dr K N Vijayaprakash, has been cancelled.

V Ponnuraj’s next posting is yet to be decided. The transfer of Ponnuraj, who had gained popularity through his aggressive people-friendly and development initiatives in the district, was resented by many. As new incumbent, Subodh Yadav,  took over charge of Dakshina Kannada district a few days back, it is being analyzed that Ponnuraj may not be able to take charge of his earlier post. As the government has not shown Ponnuraj’s next posting, several media persons tried to contact Ponnuraj to ascertain the position, but he did not respond to these calls.

With all my due respect for the below positive comentators, I would really like to know what are we talking about on M'lore development. It would be greate if DC Ponnuraj can list out his achievements in his tenure of 2 to 3 years. I was impressed some time back when he presented a kind of infrastructure model from developed country to be replicated in M'lore as a proposed future plan and was looking for public support.

Is this model realistic to implement in M'lore? All we Mangaloreans need is nothing but upgradation of our existing dilapidated/scrap infrastructure to the basic level of reasonable living condition. First and foremost, fill those pot holes immediately which claim one or two lives on a weekly basis.

    Thank you Lobo- Surat,
I was there in Mangalore Last year August and this year September. Last year from Darebail to reach Nanthoor it took me 50 Minutes. This year From Nanthoor to Pumpwell it took 45 Minutes. Very good development. You might not seen the real development and I was in middle east for 15 years and was member in tender board in Ministry. The development is not constructing buildings with proper facilities, and surely not like this type non-sense like Mangalore. If you get chance go any Gulf country or any developed countries. Watch how they paln, see the time factor, see the quality of work, and how much public or citizens will suffer. For your information I checked the Drinking water sample and Fisheries College, Microbilogy department gave the report saying that,"The water is NOT suitable for drinking". One more incident I will tell Mr. Max had severe Cardiac Arrest near Pumpwell in his work shop October 18, because of road problem they could not reach him on time to hospital and he passed away. Do you want more incidents and think what development is there in Mangalore. Of course I am proud of my country and Mangalore because I born, got my education, and I enjoy the place with my family and friends. Next time you try to compare gulf and Mangalore. Most of the Gulf countries are developed by Indians but when it comes India, there is No words how explain. Okay Lobo- Surat have agreat day and enjoy.

Dear Mr. Lobo Surat, I do endorse the comments of Mr. Alwyn, Mangalore – USA. The bjp government wherever it rules plays the politics of religion and development card. Is a road show you call it a development? Dear Lobo go around and see the twin districts of Mangalore and Udupi, you will find plenty of areca gardens. Can you eat/chew and quench your hunger with areca nut? The government is very negligent in the agriculture & irrigation. The rural development in the field of agriculture, health, loan facilities to the farmers, encouraging the farmers to cultivate paddy is must and the bjp is completely involved in road show without pre-plans. It is unable to keep the flock goes astray. Even the selfish politicians of every party are like cultivating areca garden for nothing. (amassing wealth without knowing who will reap)

Mangalore is not at all developed if we calculate the tax we pay, the vehicles we drive and pedestrians walk [I think before independent it was far better]. There is no good road, there is no walk way and no proper management of traffic. Few buildings with NO proper planning and No proper sewage, Whole city is not having rain water drainage system, no proper drinking water structure and no proper electricity supply system. Our citizens are very happy if the Political leaders or Authority persons comes and say something in words. Many times they won’t do what they said. Even the DC who was here why he never bothered to visit the high ways or local roads? Why he did ask the officials to expedite to maintain of road? We need things to happen not in words by in deeds. Every citizen must understand and know, what development is, what are our basic rights, and what responsibilities of each Government authorities are, and how much power the political ruling leaders have when they are in power. Can media publish these articles in regular basic, so citizens can understand and act accordingly?

Glad to know that his transfer has been cancelled but where is he going to go???
I hope an investigation is carried out of what all has happened in the district n in the MCC in the intervening period.
Shades of the Ambani family who had dificult people transferred, got what they wanted n then the concerned person was brought back to satisfy the opposition- deed done, object achieved n everyone happy.
    This is India shining.

It's a great news if he is brought back to Mangalore. As far as I understand his bold stand against political interference earned him the transfer earlier than expected. The goal was to remove him from Mangalore without having any proper goal where to post him. It is a "CUT and PASTE" business. Cut him first from Mangalore and look for a place to paste. Did the government got what it wanted? Certainly yes. Will Mangaloreans have him back? Probably not.

Its a wise decision to cancel Mr. Ponnuraj's transfer. He has been a aggresive DC in terms of development to m'lore city. We need such officers. Hope that the govt. will take right step and will allow to take the charge of his seat to continue as the DC of m'lore. Under his leadership the development has been in fast phase, unlike our current state govt. being neglecting the process.

This is the norm for this govt., since its inception. They take a decision today & change it tomorrow. They appoint medical staff one day & suspend them all the next-which is severely reprimanded by the High Court as well. Now atleast think before taking any new steps, otherwise it will give signal to the public- u are open to armtwisting or has no foresight by taking these kneejerk reactions(actions). But Mangalore will benefit(blessing in disguise) more as our DC has comeback to finish all half done projects.
