Mangaluru, Oct 28: In order to verify whether the Covid norms are being followed by the schools, health department officials have undertaken a novel programme.
The officials are paying surprise visits to schools to check whether the students seated in classrooms are wearing masks. They also verify whether sanitizers are provided at the entry point, whether sanitization of class rooms is being done, whether awareness has been created among the students about the necessity to maintain social distance during sports activities.
The officials also spread awareness about the vaccinations. The district administration has joined hands with the health officials to see that the vaccination programme goes on vigorously, by creating awareness through the children.
The visiting officials question the children whether their parents, grandparents and other family members have been vaccinated. The students who are aware, provide replies. The officials want the children who are not having proper information, to go home and speak to their family members about vaccination.
Covid nodal officer Dr Ashok, said that the children usually follow the advice of the teachers. Therefore the officials want to create awareness about the vaccination through the teachers. The children are made to raise this topic at their homes so that people who have not so far been vaccinated can come forward and get vaccinated, he added.
Health department officials said that the programme of school visits will continue in both urban and rural areas. They say that because of the surprise visits, the school heads will be always alert and take care to follow Covid rules. They say that as per the current plans, two to three schools are visited every day.
