Bengaluru, Oct 29: The State Government has decided to accord State funeral honour to the son of Kannada matinee idol late Dr Rajkumar’s son, power star Puneeth Rajkumar.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who visited the hospital in the morning, has expressed his condolences to the bereaved family who passed away at the young age of 46 after a massive heart attack on Friday morning and described the Kannada cinema actor as a most loved youth icon, who had earned laurels and achievements at a very young age.

The Chief Minister has appealed to the people to pay homage and respect to the deceased Kannada cinema actor by behaving with self-restraint and not to give room for any untoward incidents due to emotional outbursts.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has postponed the meeting of Group of Ministers on the GST issue scheduled to be held on Friday afternoon under his chairmanship and has also cancelled his plans to visit Chikkamagaluru and Hassan districts.

state honour is kinda become a joke in this state and country....anyone who is popular with the local public is given state honours....all things are being done like playing to the gallery...the Blue jp is taking maximum mileage out of Puneet's sudden death...they know that ghatta gowdas will watch every move of the bacchali party during the funeral of puneet...there may be disturbance during his funeral procession also like it was during his fathers funeral...after all ghatta gowdas are known to be rowdies in behaviour..if one goes to Mandya he or she will come to know..even police are scared of them..no helmet..four people ride on bikes..

He is remanence of Dr. Rajkumar which was not there in either Shivraj kumar or Raghvendra. Let us not forget that "kandante mayavadano" which was a in the lips of several generations. He was non-controversial and it is really sad that he had to go in such a early age. Neither Rajkumar nor his siblings ever showed any political ambitions for which we must salute them. They focused on films and confined it there only. No Kannada without Rajkumar and no Rajkumar without Kannada.

BJP state govt is politicising this sad moment. They did it for Shushan Singh Rajput and now no news about his cause of death. Now this where elections are around the corner. If BJP can misuse and take advantage of feelings, emotions and allegiance of people towards Bharath Matha, Cow Matha this is one more boon for BJP to meet thier ulterior selfish motive.
