Mangaluru, Oct 31: The police on Sunday October 31 arrested 15 people in connection with clashes that broke out between two groups late night on Saturday October 30 at Ballalbagh here.
The police had initially arrested 7 persons, and by Sunday evening, another 8 were taken into custody.
Apart from Dheeraj Shetty, Rakshith K, Rohith Shetty, Harshith, Keerthiraj, Vivek and Rahul, the police also arrested Jaleel, Afthar, Tilakraj, Nithin Shetty, Nawal and Sinan.
It is said that late on Saturday night, two groups of youth engaged in fight as a result of which, one four-wheeler and six two-wheelers were damaged.
The reason for the clash is yet to be known.
Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar informed that police have up take suo moto cognizance of the incident and arrested seven persons.
It is said that when police sub-inspector Shobha was on night rounds near Bejai KSRTC bus stand, a youth who came by bike informed that two groups of youths had engaged in a clash in front of an apartment in Ballalbagh. When she reached the spot, nearly 20 youths were engaged in a fight, holding lethal weapons including wickets, pipes, and stones and were involved in damaging the vehicles.
Though Shobha tried to stop the clash, instead of obeying her, the accused reportedly prevented her from discharging her duty as a public servant. A person identified as Dheeraj assaulted the officer and damaged her wireless set, while others prevented her from going ahead.
In the meantime, Hoysala vehicle and other police staff who were on duty rushed to the spot and took Dheeraj Shetty, Rakshith K, Rohith Shetty, Harshith, Keerthiraj, Vivek and Rahul into custody. Other youths fled from the spot. It is said that the youths were locals.
Police have booked the accused under sections 143,147,148,324,353,354,427 r/w 149 of IPC and section 2 a KPDLP Act.
Further investigation is on.
A case has been registered under Barke police station.
