Mangalore: Goodu Deepas Deck up Kudroli Temple with Myriad Colours

The 11th annual ‘Goodu Deepa’ competition was held at the premises of Kudroli Gokarnanatha Temple here at 5 pm on Thursday November 4.
 
The competitions were held in three categories viz traditional, modern and special model. The goodu deepas have been kept for public viewing. All the participants will be presented with the mementoes.

The prestigious Namma Tuluver Award was conferred on Dr Dayanand Pai, the managing director of the century builders on the occasion. Namma Kudla 2010 Award was conferred on drama writer Devadas Kapikad while Namma Kudla Honor Award was presented to Chandrashekar Suvarna of Suvarna Arts Mulki, and Bala Prathibhe Award to Mayuri Ullal. Former union minister Janardhan Poojary and educationist A J Shetty did the honours.

There were traditional lamps of various types and sizes. It was a treat for the eyes as goodu deepas of different sizes, shapes and colours adorned the place. Some of them were creatively designed and attracted much attention from the people.
 
The first and second prize winners will be awarded with gold medal and there will be ten consolation prizes too.
 
Participants who bring more ‘Goodu Deepas’ will be awarded with special prizes. The prizes will be presented at the valedictory of the competition on Friday November 16 at 8 pm.
