Udupi: District celebrates Rajyotsava - Minister promises standard norms to select achievers

Udupi, Nov 1: The district administration organized the 66th Kannada Rajyotsava awards ceremony on an impressive scale at Mahatma Gandhi Stadium, Ajjarkad here on Monday, November 1.

Kannada and Culture minister, Sunil Kumar, said that Kannada shapes one's behaviour and personality.

Kannadigas should get more employment opportunities in their home state. Kannadigas should get priority first. The state government is working towards that goal. Kannada is losing its existence and other languages are becoming indispensable in IT and BT companies, he regretted.

Udupi district is in the forefront as far as promoting Kannada and Tulu languages and folk culture. Kannadigas are concerned. People form here are living in Mumbai, Dubai and across the world, he added.

"There are no uniform norms for selecting achievers, and there is no restriction on the number to choose. But next year onward, the government will frame uniform rules in relation to the selection of achievers," he said.

'I wish today's young generation to emerge as young writers. Let us inculcate the reading habit in the children," he stressed.

The students performed to patriotic songs, after a gap of two years and actively participated in cultural programmes.

District Rajyotsava awards were conferred to 35 achievers of various sectors.

MLA Udupi Raghupati Bhat, Dr Naveen Bhat, CEO, zilla panchayat, N Vishnu Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, president, Coastal Development authority, Raghavendra Kini, chairman, Udupi Urban Development authority, Sumithra Nayak, President, City Municipality Council and others were present.

ADC Sadashiva Prabhu, welcomed the gathering.

    Congratulations. It is good, if awards are given, purely on achievement, without considering the political affiliations or cast and creed. We have seen last year, there was main contribution was by Covid warriors and some NGOs.
