Mangaluru: Three get two-year jail sentence for assault, outraging modesty of woman

Mangaluru, Nov 3: Three accused in the assault and outraging of modesty of woman case that occurred in 2016 under the limits of Beltangady police station, were sentenced to two years of imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 2,500 by Justice Basappa Balappa Jakati, judge of third additional district and sessions court of the city.

Naushad, Aboobacker and Mohammed Hanif are the accused who were convicted in the case.

Naushad used to harass a woman. When the husband of the victim questioned Naushad about his behaviour, Naushad, along with his father Aboobacker and brother-in-law Mohammed Hanif entered the compound of the victim’s house, assaulted her husband and outraged the modesty of the woman. A case in this connection was registered in Beltangady police station.

The court conducted an inquiry of 14 witnesses in the case before pronouncing the verdict. The judge has ordered the fine amount to the husband of the woman and has directed the district legal services authority to provide suitable compensation to the victim woman.

Public prosecutor Narayana Sherigar U argued the case for the prosecution.
