Muscat: MCCP Cricket Tourney - Fun Filled Day for Cricket Lovers

Muscat, Nov 7: Cricket is a simple game, played by 22 players; enjoyed by millions. Many a times it has become a  social phenomenon ..- Author unknown

Every year, for the last 18 years, the cricket tournament organized by the Mangalorean Catholic Centre of the parish (MCCP – Sts. Peter and Paul Church – Ruwi) attracted many cricket lovers from the Mangalorean community residing in Oman; this year too it was a fascinating experience for all those participated in this annual event; rightly titled – MCCP Annual Cricket Tournament 2010.  At the end of the event, all could proudly confess that there were two types of winners; first one, the teams who fought many tough cricket games and won the trophies;  second one, the satisfied Executive Team under the leadership of Monica Dantis, the very first lady president of MCCP, who had strived hard to offer the best possible tournament for the members.

Weather around Muscat, specially, the serene surroundings of Muscat Sports Club Grounds - Al Wadi Al Kabir, was fantastic.  Gentle breeze touching the goliath Wadi Kabir hills was spreading a mild tranquility in the atmosphere. MCCP members gathered to enjoy the game of cricket were anticipating an enjoyable day;  and truly it was a great day of sports for many.  The Executive Team of MCCP offered everything possible to make the day an enjoyable to every one attended.

Ultimately when tournament got over around 8.00 p.m., Suresh Lasrado, young and energetic cricket player and his team won the below 40 years category trophy; while Valerian Dantis, veteran cricket player of the community and his team came first in the above 40 years category. Celine D Souza with her power filled team emerged as the champions in ladies’ category. All of them lifted the prestigious MCCP Rolling Trophies.














































The program commenced with a welcome note by Alexander Sequeira – Sports Secretary of MCCP.  Monica Dantis, a rock behind the program, officially welcomed the guests, members and participants. Vincent Machado, well known community leader and an ardent supporter of MCCP event and his beloved wife, Prescilla Machado were the chief guests.  Fr. Albert D Silva, Parish Priest of Holy Spirit Church – Ghala was the guest of honor.

Fr. Albert D Silva offered the prayers seeking heavenly blessings on the event and participants. Cyprian Misquith – Vice President : Sports, Cultural and Spiritual Committees announced the main sponsors of the tournament  and they were honored by the chief guests.

Suraj Rebello – a young and energetic sports personality of the community and Dolly Gomes – charismatic supporter of MCCP sports events carried out the formation of the teams. The finest game of cricket was exhibited and teams fought few well spirited matches throughout the day and the winners were declared.

Deepak D Souza – Cultural Secretary proposed the vote of thanks.

The full MCCP Executive Team consisting of Monica Dantis – President, Cyprian Misquith - Vice President for Sports and Finance Committees,  Lancy  Thomas Lobo - Vice President for Cultural, Spiritual & Community Services Committees,  Nancy Vaz -  General Secretary,  Simon D’Souza - Honorary Treasurer,  Jacintha Serrao - Internal Auditor, Aexander Sequeira -     Sports Secretary, Deepak Ranjan D’Souza - Cultural Secretary, Reena Lobo - Spiritual Secretary, Celine D’Souza - Community Services Secretary had worked with complete diligence and done a great job in successfully organizing this year’s Cricket Tournament for the community.

The main sponsors of the tournament were Vincent and Prescilla Machado & Family.  The main sponsors were the generous supporters of MCCP cricket tournament for the last many years and as usual, this year too, they had sponsored lunch for everyone attended the tournament.  The gifts for the winners and runners up were sponsored by OUA  / Onas  Trading LLC, a leading multi-national trading house in the Sultanate of Oman.  The other sponsors were Omantel, Prompt Computers,  National Tea Company, National Mineral Water and Kenneth Melwin D’souza

Prize Distribution ceremony was conducted by Suraj Rebello. The guest of honor to present the trophies were Vincent & Prescilla Machado and Stanley T H Fernandes (Dattu – Big brother), a well known personality of the community and past president of MCCP

The umpires of the tournament were Satish, Girish, Avinash, Nitish, Hanson & Ashok and the scorer was Henry Rodrigues. All of them were felicitated during the prize distribution ceremony by EC Team.  Suraj Rebello and Dolly Gomes were also presented with token of appreciations for their contribution to conduct the tournament.
