Mangaluru: Pet shops found misleading customers, selling fake breeds

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 4: There has been a steady increase in the number of people opting to raise domesticated pet animals of the foreign breeds i including dogs, cats, birds, chameleons etc in the state. Some people who run pet stores, who understand the craze of the people for the foreign breed pets, have been selling animals by falsely claiming them to belong to foreign breeds. In coastal Karnataka too, there have been cases in which police complaints have been registered.

With a steady increase in the number of pet animal lovers, the city has been witnessing an increase in the number of pet shops. Dogs belonging to breeds like Labrador, pug, German shepherd, Golden retriever, Doberman, Pomeranian etc are sold. Cats of the Persian, Abyssinian and Australian Mist are also sold.

It is said that some of the shops are selling mixed breed pets because of high demand, by claiming they belong to foreign breeds. Foreign breed pets are cross bred with local animals and the puppies obtained are sold as foreign breed ones. About a year back, cases had been registered against a minor boy in Shaktinagar on these charges. Customers who lack authentic information about the breeds, often fall prey to the communication and convincing skills of the pet shop owners.

Some complaints have reached the police stations. Some of these complaints have come from the jurisdiction of Kadri police station. As most of these shops accept only cash, the customers many a time are not left with any records with them. A person looking after a dog, Joel Manjeshwar, says that normally an agreement is entered into between the owner and the customer of an animal to return the animal if they find it to be cross bred in which case the owner replaces it with another animal. However in coastal Karnataka mostly the animals are sold without such agreements, it is said.

A home maker said that they bought a Persian cat after the child insisted on it during the visit to the pet shop. However they later realised that it was of mixed breed. After they came to know the truth through the veterinarian, the pet shop owner has been giving one reason or the other and therefore they have filed a police complaint, she said.

Guys please do not BUY pets please adopt. The indegenous Indian mongrel is as faithful as labradors or German Shepherds and is very much inexpensive as they are very much immune to diseases. I have rescued many of these Foreign breeds who were in bad condition due to neglect or lack of knowledge on how to take care of these expensive pups. Plus, Love can not be bought. So Adopt

Customers must realize, most shop owners don't breed themselves, mostly they are resellers. Even police may not do much against these fraud practices... Customers have to be smarter and trace a original breeder and directly buy from them.

“Power will go to the hands of rascals, rogues, freebooters; all Indian leaders will be of low calibre & men of straw. They will have sweet tongues and silly hearts. They will fight amongst themselves for power and India will be lost in political squabbles.” The statement above is attributed to Churchill. , --------------- given what is happening, he seems to have been right in his predictions -—--- Sadly ---

Countries like India should encourage mixed breed pets to prevent genetics related decease, Pure breed pets need breed specific food and India has not developed to provide breed specific pet food, pet care and pet products. Pets and animals are in India abused, given wrong food, poor care and not enough love.

There are Few girl's and women who steal puppies from the road.In name of pet camp they sell animal's. Beyond this some people even try to know how many people are in homes and this leads to robbery heist. In the whole bargain the poor animals suffer. Mangaluru has lost humanity. Youngster's have zero etiquettes.People have become greedy selfish and rude. It's High time good Samaritans are born in Mangalore.

A dog is a dog, cat is a cat and cow is a cow. What difference does it make. You are looking after the welfare of a pet/animal ? They give you the same respect , comfort & joy ,whatever the breed. I think we are so OBSESSED with our own caste / religion system, that we tend to take it and apply the same to the animal world. Again remember.... THEY GIVE YOU THE SAME RESPECT , COMFORT & JOY, WHATEVER THE BREED.

People buy dogs as if they are toys sold in toyshops without realizing the responsibilities involved. A dog required as much attention as a child, specially when it is growing. Dogs have frequent mating seasons and they fall sick quite frequently. Dogs need large spaces to run around and exercise, need cleanliness and their old age is also quite long. So people who want to keep dogs should take all these things into consideration.
