Bengaluru, Nov 5: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president D K Shivakumar on Thursday November 4 said that prices of petrol and diesel were brought down in recognition of the power wielded by the voters.
"The results of the bypolls all over the nation have proved the power of the voters in a democratic system. After the result showed adverse imlpact, the governments reduced oil prices," he said.
He demanded to bring down LPG price and to create employment opportunities as promised by the Prime Minister. He said that the Congress party will launch a drive to create awareness among the people all over the nation from November 14 onwards till prices of all essentials including the LPG are slashed.
Shivakumar said that the people of the chief minister Basavaraj Bommai's home district have given their verdict after observing the achievements of the CM during his 100-day rule, in the form of defeat of BJP candidate.
He dismissed the claim that the fuel price reduction was a Diwali gift. "In fact, the fuel prices should be in the range of Rs 50 to 60 a litre. There should be reduction in the prices of iron and cement in addition to provisions and items of daily use," he said.
He also said that a lot of people are waiting to join the Congress.
Leader of the opposition, Siddarmaiah, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for showing to the world that petrol and diesel prices fall if the BJP is defeated. He asked the voters to continue to defeat the BJP in successive elections to ensure that prices of essentials go down.
