Mangaluru, Nov 7: The city police have arrested a history-sheeter for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl in Neermarga, Vamanjoor.
The arrested accused has been identified as Naveen Sequeira (40), a resident of Thokkottu.
Police have booked the accused under the sections 376, 354 and 506 of IPC and sections 4, 8, and 12 of POCSO Act. Naveen was arrested from a bar in Udupi.
It is said that the accused was acquainted with the victim's brother while working in a bar three years ago. He later began visiting the friend's residence frequently and used to stay overnight on various occasions.
The accused allegedly sexually harassed the victim in the month of March and threatened her not to reveal the incident. The accused also reportedly forced the victim to have physical relationship.
On November 4 morning, while the victim was alone at home, the accused visited the house and gave her a glass of juice mixed with some substance that made her drowsy. When the victim became inebriated and went to her room, the accused threatened her and tried sexually assaulting her. When the victim resisted and tried to raise alarm, the accused covered her mouth and threatened her against revealing the incident to anyone. After committing the crime, the accused escaped from the house.
The girl later informed her parents about the ordeal and they lodged a complaint in Pandeshwar women's police station.
It is learnt that the accused is a rowdy-sheeter under Ullal police station limits and is involved in violence and chain-snatching cases.
