Mangalore, Nov 9: The city's Central railway station will soon get a new access point, apart from a new booking counter.
This was revealed by S K Raina, Southern Railway divisional manager, at meeting held at Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here on Tuesday November 9.
The new entrance will be at Attavar, while the booking counter will be opened near Wenlock hospital which has enough parking space to accomodate a considerable number of vehicles.
Moreover, he said that work on the construction of the second overbridge at the station is expected to begin in three to four months. The project, which is slated to finish in a couple of years, has already received the green signal from the railway department, he informed.
Corporator Appi said that both the state and the union governments have promised to allot Rs six crore for the construction of the foot overbridge. The remaining amount would be granted by the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC). However, Raina denied having received any official intimation in this regard from the MCC.
Issues like unreasonable prices charged at the railway station restaurant and the pathetic condition of the road connecting Kankanady junction and the city were also raised in the meeting.
G G Mohandas Prabhu, president of KCCI, and others were present.
