Mangaluru, Nov 16: On Monday November 15, rainfall was relatively less in Dakshina Kannada district, even though a major part of the day witnessed cloudy weather. Kundapur however received torrential rains. Several rural belts also experienced markedly lesser rainfall. Lightning claimed a life near Karkala.
The meteorological department has issued orange alert for the coast on Tuesday. Therefore, the rainfall is expected to be within the normal range.
Many parts of Udupi district received rainfall but Kundapur area received heavy rain coupled with thunder and lightning. Many parts of the taluk experienced rainfall as a result of which agricultural and horticultural fields were damaged. Other places like Kaup, Udupi, Padubidri and Karkala received normal rainfall.
On Monday evening, lightning struck a house located in Nire near Bailoor here. Vadiraja Acharya (60), who was residing in the said house lost his life. Electrical and electronic equipment inside the house were burnt into ashes. The house also suffered major damage. Several neighbouring houses too were damaged in this incident.
Vadiraja Acharya fell to the ground due to the lightning. He was immediately taken to a hospital in Bailoor, but the doctors confirmed that he was brought dead. Karkala acting tahsildar Purandar, revenue inspector Shivaprasad Bhat and others visited the house.
