Sharjah, Nov 13: Karnataka Sangha Sharjah one of the well organized association for Kannadigas in UAE, brilliantly organized their sports event, Mayura Cup 2010 Tournament at Wanderer’s Club Sharjah today, Friday the 12th November, 2010 well witnessed by around megha 2000 Kannadigas from all over the UAE. 

It was a spectacular day long show in which around 16 Men’s Volley Ball Teams, 7 Ladies Throw Ball Teams, 8 Men’s Kabbadi Teams & 2 teams each in Men’s & Women’s Tug-of-war Tournaments.  On the whole there were around 160 players in Volley Ball, 84 players in Throw Ball, 90 players in Kabbadi as members of all the teams. 

The crowd included their team mates, families, friends and relatives who have come all the way to witness, support and cheer up their teams.  All in all it was well organized and arranged as the event was conducted smoothly without any hic-ups.  A Kannadiga event of this size in this part of the world, during this time, was really amazing to see.
The programme started at around 9.30 AM with opening up of the tournament by the Chief Guest, T. Ramanna, Secretary General Asian Throw ball Federation & Throw ball Federation of India who has come all the way from India to witness this function.  Large number of people already assembled in the early morning hours though the weather was a bit warm and humid..




















































 

Following were the teams who participated in the Mayura Cup 2010 Tournament.

Men's Volley Ball Teams:
 
Team A    = Labtech, Saifa Friends, New Medical Centre, Karavali Milan -2
Team B    = Youngster Nakre, St. Lawrence, Coorg Friends, Perfect Shine
Team C    = Karnataka Sangha Sharjah, Maravali Milan 1, Solar Marine, Star One
Team D    = Lama Tour, Sharjah Sparks, Jebel Ali Karnataka Sangha, Ace Spikers
 
Women's Throw Ball:
 
Team A    = Karnataka Sangha Sharjah, Canarites Dubai, Konkan Dubai &
                    Mangalore Konkans

Team B    = Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, Jashan Dubai & Bunts Dubai
 
Men's Kabbadi
 
Team A    = Karnataka Sangha Sharjah, Mogaveers UAE, Bhatkal Dubai,
                     Kukkinje Friends, Bantwal & Marga Deepa UAE

Team B    = Chilly Willy, Express Money, Mangalore Friends, Bantwal & Coastal
                     Waves Ullal
 
Men's Tug of War
 
Team A    = Transvil, Bantwal, Xpress Money, Bunts Dubai, Lama Tours,
                    Karnataka Sangha Sharjah, Mogaveers UAE
 
Women's Tug of War
 
Team A    = Karnataka Sangha Sharjah, Konkans Dubai, Jashan Dubai &
                    Mangalore Konkans
 
The participating teams were well prepared with Managers, Coaches, T-Shirts, etc. as if it was a professional Olympics going on.  Even the members of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah had special T-shirts worn to be identified as organisers.  All the events were well judged by able individual, independent Referees and side Umpires who have managed to judge and qualify the teams rightly without any arguments or chaos.  Each and every member of the team had played with good spirits keeping alive the tournament throughout the day.  Similarly the cheer leaders and supporters were very enthusiastically supporting their team with good team spirit.

The winners of all the tournaments unanimously agreed were as follows:-

1) Men’s Volley Ball  -  Winner  – Youngster Nakre
       -  Runners-up -  Saifa Friends

2) Women’s Throw Ball - Winner - Mangalore Konkans
    - Runners-up  - Jashan Dubai

3) Men’s Kabbadi  - Winner - Karnataka Sangha Sharjah
    - Runners-up - Bhatkal Dubai

4) Men’s Tug-of-War  - Winner - Bantwal
    - Runners-up - Karnataka Sangha Sharjah

5) Women’s Tug-of-War - Winner - Konkans Dubai
    - Runners-up - Karnataka Sangha Sharjah

There were various other special games for children cheerfully conducted by the members of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah and participated by many children.  It was nice to see little children enjoying themselves after the games and in their own world within the stadium premises through out the day.

Karnataka Sangha Sharjah has arranged glittering trophies of which the winner trophies were of 21 carat gold plated and the runners-up were of silver plated. Other than that the winners were felicitated with cash prizes of Dhs.1,000/- each and runners-up with Dhs.750/- each.  All the team members were individually honoured with cups and plaques by the managing committee of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah.

There were specially awarded prizes for the identified personalities of each team and tournament.  Some of them awarded were Best snatcher in Women’s Throw ball – Mabel of Mangalore Konkans, Best Receiver – Precilla Pinto of Mangalore Konkans & Best All Rounder – Syamala Poojari of Jashan Dubai.

The prize distribution took place at around 7 PM and all the winners and runners-up along with their team mates collected their trophies.

The afternoon vegetarian lunch buffet was arranged by Shiv Saagar Restaurant, Bur Dubai.  There were snack corners supplying mouth watering dishes viz., Paav Bhaaji, Bhel Puri, Chicken Gasi, Pundi etc. etc.  There were also tea, coffee, water, cold drinks, ice creams & snacks counters well arranged by some of the sponsors who have taken care of all the participants and guests.

One should appreciate the spirits of all the members of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah who have put in all their efforts behind the successful tournament which was very well ably compeered by Uttam in his own style maximizing Kannada language in his best possible.

The programme got concluded at around 8 pm..

    Cogratulations to Mr. Noel Almida and entire organising team for such a wonderful event. Really enjoyed all the games especially Kabbaddi and Volleyball. Kabbaddi final was really a thrilling match and I am sure the spectators enjoyed every bit of it.Overall it was played in good spirits.

    First of all "Congratulation to Mangalore Konkans Team" for winning the throw ball competition again this year. good to know that you all are best of the team who is undefeated till now.

    congratulation to Mr. Noel & his team for organising such a big and wonderful event which was really nicely organised, nice to see the water facility available at required places, cleanliness on regular period, proper announcement and discipline by the participants and the family members who came there. it was really very very well organised.

    my kids really enjoyed the time spent there and also in making new friends. please find the lovely pictures of some beautiful moments of the sports.
