Abu Dhabi: ‘Pearls of Mangalore’ Stages ‘Dabazo-2010’

Abu Dhabi, Nov 14: ‘Pearls of Mangalore’, a Konkani musical troupe based in Abu Dhabi, showed the Konkani community how they can take Konkani talent to great heights and exhibit them on stage.
Wilfred Fernandes and Sandra Fernandes compeered the entire event in Konkani. The event began with a warm welcome by team member Anil Pinto in English.
Multi-talented Clarissa presented a classical prayer dance and little Adelle and Preetham welcomed the audience dressed in traditional ‘Gurkarn’ and ‘Gurkar’ of Varado and offered ‘Paan-Pod-Udak’.
The inaugural function was held with all the sponsors on the stage with a candle being passed from team leader Alphonse Mendonsa to each sponsor for their unconditional support to the group finally lighting the special lamp kept at the centre. All the sponsors were then honoured with mementos, and flowers.
The main theme of the entire event was Konkani and the Konkani mother land and it started with a wonderful tableau presented by little children to a beautiful song, “Konkani re Konkani Amchi Bhas Konkani” highlighting our beautiful land, its history, traditions, customs, great writers, and singers. The song was again sung by main singers of the team Ronald Lobo, Lolita Pinto, Dony Pinto, Wilfred, Sandra, Helen, Felix D’Souza, Lidwin Pinto, Maxim Pereira, Ronald D’Souza, Jessy Rasquinha, Paul Pereira, and Movin Rasquinha. The little pearls Monish, Monal, Dolen, Dion, Adelle, , Joshal, Stephany, Masha, Raveena, Erica, Rachel, Pearl, and Prameeth also sang ‘Konkni Amchi Mai Bhas’.
The little pearls also danced to the Konkani numbers ‘Rosaline’, and ‘Thuja Dolyanthuli’. The children who participated were Adelle, Monal, Prameeth, Ralph, Monisha, Olivia, Rianne, Joshal, Dolen, and Elisha . Sarvotham Shetty, president, Karnataka Sangha, and Sudhir Kumar Shetty COO, Global-UAE Exchange, were presented with a well-known Tulu number ‘Dingiri Mama’.
The waltz ‘Altari Mukar Ravon’ (Wilfy-Sandra), and ‘Muje Tavn Poise Tum Astana’ (Felix-Ledwin), brought dancing couples to the floor and was followed by Goan numbers ‘Meera Meera’ and ‘Bom Jezucha Koventhanth’ (Ronald D’Souza), ‘Anjelina’ (Felix), ‘Gulfa Tavn’ (Movin), ‘Kaliz Lasta’ (Lydwin), ‘Bombaichem Chedum’ (Rony Lobo), ‘Vees Vorsancha Prayer’ (Rony-Paul), ‘Havn Chedum Bombaichem’ (Lolita), ‘Lavleen’ (Maxim), ‘Shiryani Kombi’ (Rony-Lolita), ‘Bandal Badai’ (Dony) and two songs with video presentations—‘Punwecha Rathin’ (Paul) and ‘Kalzanthuli’ (Dony). ‘Pappa Mammi Gulfanth’ (Monisha) was also sung wonderfully.
A few rib-tickling skits were presented by Lancy, Wilson, Dony, Rony, Movin, Hilda Manoj, Sharon, Claudy, and Denis and ‘All is Well’ was unique amongst them and was presented by Manoj, Sharon, Claudy, and Denis.
‘Mothiam Baila’ was a blend of old and new, and in various languages, Konkani, Hindi, Tulu and Kannada which had the final long dance on the floor.
The music for the entire show was by well-known musician from Dubai James Fernandes and his team (Joseph, Sameer, Ramiro, Vellroy, and Wilfy). Sound system was excellent and was provided by Joel Crasta, Prem and team of Abu Dhabi.
