Udupi, Nov 23: The police department had organized a progrmme at the district armed reserve police force ground (Chandu Maidan) on Tuesday November 23 for returning goods and vehicles which were lost in theft and other cases by their owners. Goods pertaining to the years 2020 and 2021 were returned. Out of 151 cases in the year 2020, stolen goods were recovered and restored in 45 cases.
The goods returned pertained to 151 cases registered in the year 2020. They included one case relating to murder for gain, 14 cases of robbery, one daylight robbery, seven cases of theft at night, five cases of theft of vehicles, four cases of house thefts and 13 other theft cases. Out of thefts totalling to Rs 3.13 crore, valuables worth Rs 58.47 lac were detected and returned.
During the year 2021, two cases of murder for gain, one case of robbery, one daylight theft, six night thefts, 13 vehicle thefts, one house theft and seven other thefts were detected. From among the total theft of Rs 2.61 crore reported, goods worth Rs 32.31 lac were detected and returned. Out of 161 cases, stolen items were found in 31 cases.
District superintendent of police, N Vishnuvardhan, additional superintendent of police, Kumar Chandra, and officers from all over the district participated in the programme. The owners of the lost goods were also present.
